Every day, on the other side of the lake there was a man. He casted a fishing line…sitting there the whole day…whether rain or shine. Rainy day? He could be seen sitting there with his fishing line sitting at the edge of the lake. Sunny and sweltering hot day? He still sat there. Even in the early morning when I woke up and realized the sun hadn't risen up yet, as I peeked outside my bedroom window…There he was! Sitting there and still staring at the water!
“Hey kiddo, why are you up so early…?” My dad came into my room.
“I woke up too early…?” I chuckled a nervous laugh. “Say, what is the man on the other side of the lake doing? Why is he always there?”
My dad squinted his eyes at the other side of the lake. “What do you mean? I don’t see anyone…Besides, the lake is so polluted with garbage such that no one would ever want to fish there!” I felt a chill go down my spine. “What do you mean? He’s right ther…huh…?” As I glanced back, he was gone.
“Alright kiddo, I think you might be hallucinating from lack of sleep, I think you know what that means!”
I grumbled, ”Fine, fine, I’ll sleep I’ll sleep”
My dad made his way out of the room as I settled back in bed to sleep.
As I sat up for one last peek…There. There he was. He obviously was there! His head came up and he seemed to stare straight at me in the eyes. I jolted and felt myself turn cold for a moment before I hurriedly threw the curtains closed.
I laid down in bed, tossing and turning. No matter what, i couldn’t seem to sleep. The experience of the man turning to look at me kept on repeating in my mind. The shivers and shock I felt replayed in my head. Thought and questions circled my mind like a train going in circles. Thats it. I gave in to those thoughts, took my flashlight and set off into the darkness.
As I came within shouting distance of the man, I yelled, “Hello? Hi!” Only to be met with silence. “He must be sleeping” I muttered under my breath. Upon going closer I realized that the man seemed to be frozen in time. At this point in time, it wasn’t even a man in the first place, it was a boy, like me! His face was frozen in a shocked expression, his mouth agape. He wore an oversized hat that hid his delicate childish features. He wore the clothes that made me mistake him for a man. Although every single one of my senses screamed at me to immediately turn back and run all the way back home, I held my stand. I picked up a stick from the ground and nudged the boy.
What a mistake.
The boy fell down in front of me and that was when I got an actual close up of his face. Eyes blotched white, mouth wide open in the midst of a scream. His arms and legs seemed to have been moved by someone into a position that made it seem like he was fishing. Like a doll, I thought uneasily in my mind. As I tried to run, to my horror, my legs were glued to the ground. They were frozen in time.
As I used my unusual heavier than usual arms to try to pluck my feet off the ground. But…I couldn't feel them! I couldn’t feel my feet at ALL! As I used my last resort, to scream for help, I felt my teeth tumbling out of my mouth like pebbles. Oh no. Oh no I hurriedly glanced around…only to realize that my body had mostly stiffened up. I tried moving only to send my statue-like body falling. I panicked even more and my heart pounded hard and fast in my chest. Do I even have a heart at this point? Only my eyes moved and I saw the boy gazing at me with sympathetic eyes. I had met the same fate as him.
“Oh my, Oh my! What a catch! Get it?” a young girl’s voice broke the silence. She seemed to have come out of nowhere. Wearing a pink dress with a yellow spotted jacket over it, she skipped over, her orange ponytail bouncing with every skip. She kneeled down to my eye level and gave a smile that chilled me to the core. “Well hello there! Ever heard the saying curiosity kills the cat? Haha! Well the killing part comes later! As for now… I need you for bait!” She propped me up in a sitting position and adjusted my hands to hold the fishing rod.
I wanted to cry, to scream, to shout for help but all that came from me was silence. I felt some bits of water dripping down my cheeks. This would probably be the last time I tear up…I thought to myself. The girl waved what I recognised was a severed hand in front of me and smiled at me, bloody pieces of meat still stuck in between her teeth. “This is going to be you soon!” Her breath smelled like blood.
I really shouldn’t have came here to investigate. Now all I could do was to sit here in bitter resentment.
Days turned to weeks and weeks turned to months. What was once my house became sold to someone else. A new family moved in. As I saw a boy peek out through what was once my room window to stare at me, I surprisingly was able to tilt my head to look at him. Don’t make the same mistake as me I thought in my mind with pleading eyes.

Tom looked in horror and in shock. Did the man just turn and stare at him? That was it. He’s had enough of this. He just HAS to investigate! He grabbed a torchlight and ran out of his house…

Far away, a girl perched on a tree saw Tom.
“And so the cycle continues, “ She whispered with a wicked grin.

06/05/2022For me, the story worked & I enjoyed reading it. It outmatched some so called creepypasta horror that I have read in the past. Thanks for sharing!
