Lord of the southern slopes
Born 1959, M, from Stoke, United KingdomI have dined at his Lordships pleasure
Enjoyed the company and the fine wine
Discussed wars and quests for treasure
The ridiculous and the sublime
We have talked politics over a brandy
And Cuban cigars we have smoked
Discussing the modus operandi
With the Lord of the southern slopes
I have fought at his side in wars
Shared tears over our fallen friends
Left in death on foreign shores
In skirmishes that never end
I stood by his side when he married
Was there when his father spoke
To tell him the title he carried
The Lord of the southern slopes
I was there when the word reached us
That his wife had been brutally slain
Murdered by the miserable creature
That was the king of Spain
I rode with my Lord and his soldiers.
Rode hard and going for broke
Across the mountains and moors
Rode the Lord of the southern slopes
The battle was arduous and untoward
The hardest of the campaign
But at the end was on his broadsword
the head of the king of Spain
But my Lord was severely injured
And on his blood he choked
So we carried him back over the mountain
My Lord of the southern slopes
I sat by his side as he was tormented
For his love of his life was no more
Until finally he consented
That I carry him down to the shore
There he laid a rose in the sea
Quietly pondering lost love and lost hopes
Then passed from this world peacefully
My Lord of the southern slopes.
No finer man will there be ever
Among princes or kings or popes
We buried him under the heather
My Lord of the southern slopes
