1100 Stories.
Born 1951, M, from Wilmington NC, United States.jpeg)
Aloha Everyone,
Well, I did it. I reached my goal of having written - and published- more short stories than the famous: L.Ron Hubbard. He holds the Guinness World Record for most Published Short stories. Sadly, they retired that record...so that no one can Officially break it. I did ...unofficially. And yes it feels just as good. LOL
What did I learn from writing so many stories? (by the way, I have read ten times the stories I wrote on StoryStar) I learned several things: There are stories all around us. Your story needs to be written too.
I learned that even good writers can improve. I haven't. I still don't proof read, edit, or write multiple drafts. I have no excuse. I can write- and well, if I put my mind to it, but as far as I can tell, I don't. Sigh.
Why that is... is one of the mysteries of my life, and will forever lay without an answer like: why I like flying but don't like to fly. Or why I don't eat bacon anymore. Who knows those answers...not me.
I learned that even badly written stories have potential. Good stories can be told better, and some can be rewritten to sparkle. There are so many writers on StoryStar that can really write well. I call them: Writers. Capital "W."
I learned that short and strong beat long and good. There should be no wasted words in a story. No wonder good and great Writers rewrite so many drafts. Every correction makes the story shorter, stronger, sharper. I know that, but I do my editing on the fly...and it shows.
I learned to keep my opinions to myself unless asked for, and even then, I might not reply.
Writing is fun for me, which means I will keep doing it. If it becomes a chore, work, or a duty....I will stop. I know how to say "NO." Until then...I guess it is on to creating one thousand two hundred stories.
Wish me luck.
