This is a story that might be true.
It’s about a pig; her name is Dru.
Dru likes to sing and Dru likes to dance.
Dru likes to wear her green-checkered pants.
Dru thought that she and she alone
Had green-checkered pants and pitch-perfect tone.
Then one day (and this is rather funny)
She happened to meet a little bunny.
This bunny was singing and doing a dance.
And he was wearing green-checkered pants!
“What?” cried Dru. “This cannot be!
You sing and you dance, and you dress just like me!
Your pants look exactly the same as mine.
That is not okay. It is not fine.”
The bunny said, “Actually, I think it’s kind of neat.
By the way, my name is Pete.
I see that you’re wearing green-checkered pants.
Now tell me, can you sing and dance?”
“Certainly, I can! Watch and you’ll see.
The very best singer and dancer is me!”
“Well,” said Pete, “You’re really not bad,
But your attitude makes me feel rather sad.
It’s good to know you can do something well.
But if you think yourself BEST, your pride starts to swell.
Always let others say good things of you,
And be grateful for the things you can do.
Now, I have an idea – it might be fun!
We could put on a show for everyone!
What if we as a team put on a show?
It might cheer people up. Please don’t say no!”
So Dru and Pete practiced a while.
They chose songs that were certain to make others smile.
They put up a sign that read “Show Tonight!”
Everyone came, and oh, what a sight!
They watched and they listened and had lots of fun.
They clapped and they cheered when the show was done.
Pete said, “Thank you for coming to see our show.
There is just one thing we want you to know.
We did this to cheer you and to make you smile.
If we succeeded, this night was worthwhile!”
Of course, you must know how this story ends.
Dru and Pete became very good friends.
And perhaps they still love to sing and to dance.
And perhaps they still wear their green-checkered pants!
