The Story of Ruth and Walter
I was running away, but she was right on my heels;
If you’ve ever been chased, then you know how it feels.
Faster and faster, I tried to flee,
But still she was there, laughing with glee.
Was there no one to help me, no one to care?
Life on the playground can be so unfair.
Then suddenly I knew what to do.
I dropped down quickly as though tying my shoe.
She soared right over and landed in a heap.
Then (unbelievably) began to weep.
“He tripped me, and now I’ve scraped my hand!”
I heard her scream as I started to stand.
She went to the nurse; teachers took me aside.
They said, “Tripping is something that we won’t abide.”
They didn’t believe me, though I told them the truth.
They chose to believe that big liar, Ruth.
And when I saw her again later that day,
She said, “Walter, listen, I get my way!
One thing I know for certain is this:
You’re the only one that I’m going to kiss.
So, I already have a very good plan
For when we’re grown up and you are a man.
Listen carefully, dear, sweet little Walter.
You and I – we will stand at the altar.
We will say our vows, you and I
And be together until the day we die.”
Well, she was right and one day I stood
And uttered those vows that she said I would.
But before you say, “Wowzers! What a horrible curse!”
I have to confess that it could be worse.
Ruth happens to have a whole lot of money.
She owns a resort on a beach that is sunny.
She doesn’t make me do any chores.
We have a maid who cleans all the floors.
And here is another thing you should know.
Loyalty and respect she’s willing to show.
She tells other people that I’m handsome and strong,
And she insists that I am rarely wrong.
She says that she loves my muscular chest.
She says that I am the very best.
She spoils me – that is the truth.
And do you know what? I love my Ruth!
And yes, it was all HER plan,
But I am happy to be her man!
