My friend Thomas
Born 2009, M, from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, United StatesCrunch. Crunch. Crunch. The sound of the bone white snow giving way under my feet as I traverse the sidewalk towards school.
"Crunching snow, no where to go. a raven sitting on a hill, and drowning in a thoughtful flow."
"God, you're so weird, Thomas," I say. we reach the blood red bricks of the school, and head to class. we have the exact same schedule, it's weird. Thomas follows me wherever I go, but not by his own will. We seem to always have the same idea at the sane time. But it's ok with me. Some of the other kids think I'm weird for some reason, so I stick with him.
"If Dan has 20 pencils, what percentage of one hundred does he have?"
"Too many!" I yell.
"Anthony! Detention!" I head into the hall, mumbling. Thomas is at the water fountain, and sees me. he follows me to the principal's office. On the way, he whispers into my ear:
"Hey, that teacher is pretty mean. Maybe teach her a lesson."
"You psycho! I'm not doing anything to her."
"You're right... it would really be a shame if anything happened to her." I reached the principal's office, and, as usual, talked my way out of suspension. the rest of the day dragged on as they normally do.
The next day I woke up oddly sore, as if I ran through the city. But all the same, I made my way to school with Thomas, to find a substitute in class.
"Hi class, I will be your teacher...er... indefinitely. You see, your other teacher was found dead in her apartment last night." Whispers spread throughout the classroom.
"How did it happen?" Someone asked.
"The police think someone snuck in and... well... you can figure out the rest."
"Huh." I wondered why Thomas was oddly silent today. But I kept it to myself, and let the day continue, until at the end of the day, a couple of kids pushed me and Thomas to the ground.
"Leave me alone!" I yell.
Thomas' face contorts and turns red, and he strikes the bully. The bully goes unconscious, his face covered in blood from his mouth and nose.
"What the heck man!"
"Yeah, Thomas, what the heck?" I demand.
"Hey kid, who the heck are you talking to?"
"T-Thomas! He's right... here."
"There's no one there. You went psycho on Jake!"
"I didn't- but he's... sorry." I run home and slam my door, panting. I hide under the covers, until I hear a voice I recognize anywhere.
"Hi, Thomas. Those kids were really mean. We should show them what they do to us."
"They were pranking me right? I'm not insane... You're real! TELL ME YOU'RE REAL!"
"Oh, I'm real. I'm as real as I can be." But, something was off about him. His eyes, they were turning into red blobs glowing in their sockets. His smile was much too wide, and he walked closer. his teeth got huge and sharp as he walked up to me, closer and closer. The room goes dark, and all I can see is his eyes and smile, like a terrifying Cheshire Cat. I feel numb.
"I'm real. Trust... Me." I stumble and fall, but I don't hit the ground. I get more and more numb. I can hear him talking, but can't make out what he's saying, my hearing leaves me as I keep falling. But his face is still above me, smiling, smiling. I try to yell, but my mouth won't move. The last thing I see are his bright red eyes and razor sharp teeth, and it fades away. I'm gone..
