Those bloody sheep
Born 1953, F, from Auckland, New ZealandCount sheep they say, is this just an NZ thing or does this full proof sleep thing exist worldwide?
Me counting sheep,
I’m one of the thousands that have multiple things going on in my head and can’t get to sleep.
So I tried to count sheep.
How many sheep? A whole Flock and no less I have decided. After all I do live in a country where there are more sheep than people.
Damn they are running everywhere.
Build a pen.
Done that, now to count them.
Emmm , that’s no good. They are jumping back into the pen after I take them out.
Bloody sheep.
Spotted something, climb into the pen. What is that? I think it’s a wolf?
I chase that around for a bit until I catch it, walk a mile up the road and set it free. Asking it nicely not to come back.
Back to my sheep counting,
I think I have to put them in lines because they are running all over the place. Jumping and running everywhere and I can’t keep track of them.
Lines are no good for sheep. They like to mingle so the lines lasted about two seconds.
Ok, Im ready to start the count, hold on I forgot that they kept jumping back in and making this sleep thing impossible.
I’ve now built a pen on this side to put each one in as I count.
I’m ready to start.
One two three four. Hey that wasn’t a sheep, its that bloody wolf back again.
So this time I just won’t count it. My mind drifts off as I saw a baby lamb and just had to go and have a cuddle.
I can’t concentrate on any sheep. I’ve completely gone off the sheep counting thing.
I wake up , it’s morning. Did my sheep counting put me to sleep or did it drive me crazy?
You choose.
The End

11/06/2023Thanks, Gail, for making me smile. I loved the part about the line lasting two seconds. I could see everything that you were describing! :)

10/24/2022I've tried to count sheep a couple times, but for me it has been the classic sheep jumping over a fence. Somewhere along the way, I end up trying to figure out why they are jumping over the fence rather than go around - what are they, part goat?
Still a good story.
