The Bloody Stranger

The Bloody Stranger…
The glimmering beam of moonlight shone across Eloise’s window as she read her book. The chirpy crickets and the cold breeze kept her company as she wrapped her head around the contents of the big fat novel in her hand. The soothing silence was interrupted by the peculiar noise of tapping.
The rhythmic tapping was first ignored by her, mistaking them for raindrops. But as the tapping got louder and irregular, her attention was swerved away from her book. She looked at the bare window to see what was causing the disturbance. Her small steps were escorted by an adrenaline-infused heart, beating faster as she got closer to the window. She placed her hands on the window pane and looked outside.
The mesmerizing night sky caught her attention when she found nothing. Suddenly, a hand appeared. It pressed against the window, covered in blood. She gasped in shock, falling back. Was she hallucinating? After regaining her spirits, she got up and took a look again. The hand was real. She didn’t imagine it. Till now she wouldn’t know what made her open the window but when she did, the sight of a man her age stood before. He was well built, with silky hair and a wounded body. His Tee was covered with slashes. His heavy breathing scared her. His helpless face made her cave in and take him in. She opened the window and let him in. The mysterious man climbed in with great effort, landing with a heavy impact on the floor. He faced the ceiling, laughing through the pain.
Eloise looked at the bloody stranger that lay on her floor.
“Don’t worry… I won’t hurt you. I just need a bandage and some painkillers,” Before she could respond, he continued. “Also… Would you be a dear and make me a cup of coffee?”
“Who are you?” She addressed the question that needed to be asked.
“Do I need to tell you? He replied.
“If you want my coffee… I want a name,”
“How does that work? I mean I could say a fake name and get on with it and you probably won’t even know,”
He made a good point there. Regardless, she pestered him for a name.
“Ethan,” He answered.
She gave him a look. He looked back smiling. After a few seconds, she left her room to get the cup of coffee and supplies. Ethan sat there, looking at the room. The ludicrous amount of posters on all 4 sides amused him.
He slowly leaned up against her bed, letting out a sigh of relief.
A few minutes later, she arrived with a first aid kit and a cup of coffee.
He gladly accepted the cup from her. “Thank you,”
Simple survivor instincts tell you to call the cops when a random stranger drenched in blood lies down on your floor. That instinct arrived a bit late. She slowly reached for her phone on the table. Ethan dressing himself up noticed the petite movements of her feet.
“Please don’t do that,”
She stopped in her tracks. Her hand retracted.
“Give me a good reason to not do it,”
“Hmm… It’s a long story,”
He opened up the first aid kit and grabbed the bandages… After a brief silence, she asked him a question.
“Are you going to kill me?”
Ethan let out a laugh.
“I won’t be killing anymore, I can assure you that,”
He couldn’t bring himself to bandage his wounds. The laughter did manage to reduce the pain though.
“Let me help you with that,” Eloise walked over and took the bandage after seeing him struggle. She sat down in front of him, taking a look at the wounds.
Her eyes, her gleaming eyes sparkled under the moonlight. Her hair fluttered about when the wind blew. What was it that changed the mood? As her eyes focused on his dreamy brown eyes, her speech fumbled. Her hands stood still.
He hadn’t noticed her mesmerizing eyes striking his. When he saw them, however, he was lost in them. Who was this girl he thought? Why was she helping him, a stranger who arrived at her window all bloody? She poured a bit of antiseptic on a cloth and dabbed the wounds. He winced in pain and grabbed her wrist in a quick response. She was startled.
His wounds stung at the touch of the alcohol.
“Breathe. Drink the coffee,” She stopped dabbing.
His face… Something about it made her feel different. Was she aroused? Her breathing got heavier as her mind swayed away in thought.
“You okay?” He asked, looking at her hands shaking.
“Y-yeah. A-all good,”
She leaned in closer to stitch in the wounds. He exquisitely looked at her. Eloise felt his sights falling on her. After sewing in one stitch meticulously, she looked at him. “Why do you make me feel attracted to you?” She asked herself.
Ethan looked at her endearingly. The more he looked at her, the more it made him look back at his past… One he deliberately forgot to escape the pain that followed. She reminded him of someone else. The thought of that someone made him tear up. Eloise… you are special… you just don’t know it yet. For a heartless man to tear up at the sight of a woman is a sign that he cares for her.
The silent night stood still. The enchanting moonlight shone. He held her hands. He looked at her lips followed by her eyes.
Ethan leaned forward. His lips touched her rosy cheeks. She gasped in wonder. She looked at him in wonder.
“What are you doing?” She asked.
“I don’t know,” His breathing caressed her skin. She didn’t stop him. Eloise was relaxed and nervous at the same time. She didn’t want him to stop. As his lips slowly made their way to her soft lips, she let go. Her hands grabbed his hair as they kissed. He pulled back and asked: “What are you doing?”
She replied in a raspy voice: “I don’t know,” pulling him back to kiss those fiery lips. She hadn’t felt this thrilled since Mason. She placed her hand close to his heart to feel his heartbeat.
Ethan forgot about the men chasing him. He forgot the pain of his wounds. Was this his moment of reconciling with his lost past?
“Why do you attract me? She asked. Her contended eyes pierced into his.
“You remind me of someone I knew. Someone I loved long ago. She had the same innocent look you have. Unfortunately our love story wasn’t meant to be. Some people coudn’t fathom the idea of me being happy and took her away from me,”
“Why did those people do this to you? What did you do?” She pondered inquisitively.
“I won’t speak much. Right now I need my mind off of it,” He placed his hand on her bed and tried getting up. Eloise got out of his way. He stood in agony as his legs struggled to keep him in place. Eloise suggested that he rest for the day.
“It’s not safe for the either of us for me to be here. I must get going,”
“No. You can barely stand. Take rest… please?” She held his hand. His eyes… though she had seen so many eyes in her life, she fell in love with his.
After some thinking, he accepted her request. He laid down on her bed. She laid down beside him. His eyes stared at the empty ceiling, contemplating the bygones. It was time for him to move on. As he felt her hands cuddle him, her fingers running across his stitched wound softly, he couldn’t resist a smile taking shape. He kissed her on the forehead and placed his hand around, coddling her.
She felt safe inside the hands of the bloody stranger. Living alone for a few months re-ignited that feeling of passionate love she lost.
Dawn broke. Eloise woke up to find Ethan missing. Was this all a dream? No. It felt too surreal to be one. As she got up and placed her foot down, she noticed the empty cup of coffee and a box of painkillers on the ground below.
“Will I ever see you again? She asked.
She noticed Ethan’s blood on the floor and wiped it off. She walked over to her desk to grab her phone. On top of her phone, she found a folded piece of paper. She opened it up and read it.
“Wait up… I’ll be back for you. Thank you :)”
