Deforestation
Born 2011, F, from Santa Clara, California, United StatesDEFORESTATION:
Deforestation is dreadful and awful to the environment. People have been cutting down trees for thousands of years! Trees grow very fast; however, scientists estimate that 500,000 miles of land is deforested every ten years! The largest amount of deforestation is happening in the tropical areas, where rainforests are being cut down. To make matters worse, most deforestation is permanent. Some forests can recover, but it takes many years.
Deforestation also greatly reduces the number of animals that thrive and live in the forest. We need animals to make our ecosystem complete and forests are important because they are peaceful and quiet where people can rest or play and listen to animals. When trees are cut down by people, this recreational use of forests is forever lost. Many animals are endangered, or even extinct as their homes are permanently gone.
Forests are also very important to the environment because of the oxygen they give us. Oxygen is the fundamental need for all living things. Without oxygen, human beings could also face extinction. Wouldn’t that be sad?
In summary, deforestation affects the wildlife, ecosystem, and the fundamental needs of living things. As such, I really encourage people to think twice about cutting trees as it could have irreversible consequences.
