Be Thankful
Born 1957, F, from Mesick Michigan, United StatesYou sleep peacefully at night in a soft warm bed
with a fluffy white pillow to comfort your head.
While others search desperately for a cardboard box
and lay their withered heads upon a pile of cold rocks.
BE THANKFUL
You satisfy your hunger with a nice hot spread
or just a simple sandwich of peanut butter on bread.
While others search through trash cans of metal and wire
hoping for scraps their empty stomachs will desire.
BE THANKFUL
Family's sit in solitude as they say prayers of thanksgiving
for things that they have and the blessings of the living.
While one family prays for their only dying son
they understand his sacrifice and regrets they have none.
BE THANKFUL
You gather your family for a Thanksgiving meal,
and talk about good times and the memories you'll seal.
Others sit quietly in their humble abode
with no one to listen to their stories foretold.
BE THANKFUL
Your children are surrounded by family and friend
for their constant support you can always depend.
While there's a young runaway alone on the streets
when danger is imminent, she quickly retreats.
BE THANKFUL
On cold winter nights you sit by a fire
enjoying the comfort, the flames inspire.
While some gather round an old burning barrel
they huddle for warmth against mother nature's peril.
BE THANKFUL
Your food is a plenty, your pantry is stocked
Concern you have none of what feast you'll concoct.
Many families will worry about their next meal
with pain in their hearts they will beg, borrow and steal.
BE THANKFUL
Your children are happy and healthy, and full of fun
they skip, hop, dance and run run run.
Yet others lie silent in wheelchairs or beds
while illness, disease, and cancer tears their bodies to shreds.
BE THANKFUL
Be humble and appreciative for what you've been blessed. But remember the less fortunate. The young and the old. The sick, hungry, lonely and scared. Keep them in your prayers and help when you can. You will be paid in gratitude many times over.
Happy Thanksgiving!!!
