Educated Buffoons

Prior to attending college, I had a very high opinion of people. holding doctoral, masters or bachelor's degrees. Especially of the professors who taught at such universities. To me, they were paragons of rationality setting the example for us all.
I never imagined such individuals capable of arguing over what most humans consider trivia, becoming vehemently enraged over nonsense, and being motivated by envies or irrational peevish hatreds, racism-etcetera. I believed them to have been totally impervious to such foolishness.
Unfortunately, my expectations did not harmonize with cruel and sobering reality. Instead, and to my total surprise, it turned out to be the complete opposite. I found that out gradually as I began to behold the people whom I had so held high esteem, displaying the same foibles as everyone else.
The Morose Psychology Professor
For example, there was this short, balding, dark complexioned, and extremely high-strung male professor teaching general psychology, who would slowly and methodically pace the classroom floor from wall to wall like some harassed caged animal, while gripping this metal rod in his hand, before and during his lectures.
Before each class, he would casually inform us about the minute details of his weekend activities. He would meticulously describe exactly how much fun he and his daughter had experienced. Then he would describe what he was planning to do the next weekend. Or else he'd wax melodic about some other incident in his past that he found extremely problematic. He would always do this for the first five or ten minutes before he commenced doing what he was supposed to do-teach. This provoked one frustrated student to protest that he was wasting his money taking his class. The professor looked shocked that the student should have felt that way, and continued with the same routine regardless.
He'd also occasionally interrupt his lecture, stare at us while proudly comparing himself with a wild bear that should never be trusted because it might just decide rip your head off at any moment when you least expected it. Once, when someone asked a justifiable question, he panicked because he didn't know the answer, and called the student insane for having asked it. A real highly-educated SOB.
The buffoonish English Composition teacher
Then there was the dark-complexioned English-Composition teacher surnamed Bateman. This fellow would go out of his way to swivel his hips as he paced the classroom floor in order to let everyone in the classroom know that he was gay.
He'd spend about ten minutes of each class going through those antics. He would also occasionally and very brazenly suggest that having sex in his office was easy because there was a back-door that the student could very easily exit in case they were disturbed.
He once mentioned torturing children with a screwdriver with intense, malicious glee, and regularly engaged in hurling chalk and erasers with the students. At one point he began spreading false rumors of having had sex with certain females in his classes, and kept deviating the lecture-subject to sexual intercourse. He was also fond of making obscene gestures illustrating intercourse by wrapping his hand tightly around his index finger and saying "TIGHT!"
The Hypocritical Civil-Rights Bigot
Then we had this fifty-two year old Anglo Anglo American English Composition 2 teacher who looked seventy or eighty, and whose resume included having received accolades and certificates for promoting fairness for minority students but who was a blatant racist whom I made attendance at his classes miserable for any minority student that dared to attend..
How? Well, in order to make the environment hostile for them, he would initiate discussions where he criticized government aid to such students. He would also instigate conversation about skinhead justified racist opinions. Would go out of his way to avoid making eye contact with any minority student.
Frustrated over the stubborn attendance of one minority student, he mentioned that he suffered from emotional instability, was on medication, and wasn't sure if one day he would lose control and open fire on us all. I often wondered how the hell this scum-bag had earned those civil rights certificates.
The Ego Sensitive Female Goddess
Finally there was this other Psychology professor, a female in her 70's, who felt that she needed to tell everyone in class that she was a licensed psychologist. Do you know who I am?"" she would ask the classes at the outset. I am a licensed psychologist!" One student said that she appeared as if she wanted to be worshipped. If any student didn't show the respect that she was demanding, or seemed to take her lofty status for granted, she would commence to insult his or her intelligence.
But to certain degree the shock of encountering this buffoonery among the educated, and my severe disappointment based on my expectations, was totally my fault. After all, I had repeatedly read about how Hitler's doctors, "highly educated persons] had performed surgical war-crime experiments on prisoners.
I had also personally witnessed how my third-grade homeroom-teacher had given me the USA racist Hate-Look, instead of helping me when I was pinned with my pubic bone against the stairwell step being crushed by a crowd of kids piling up on top. So that knowledge alone should have prevented me from having those expectations.
In any case, it is better to know the truth than to suffer the consequences of trusting people who do not deserve our trust regardless of the formal education that they might officially have.
No, taking things to administration did no good. Why? Simple, because they claimed that the professors in question had tenure. Which to them meant that they had been there so long that they could not be fired.
Now, of course I was very disappointed and deeply shocked. Gradually, I began wondering just how valuable the education that these individuals had received really was if it couldn't prevent that type of buffoonery. I also gradually realized that gaining knowledge doesn't necessarily grant wisdom nor emotional stability. That a highly educated-person could display the same foibles as everyone else albeit with the intellectual finesse that such an education granted him.
