Dog Party (With Blake Shelton in Mind)
Born 1960, M, from Bellevue/ NE, United States.png)
A poem with Blake Shelton in mind...
My agent booked a Christmas party for me last week
Snuck it in the books; thought it’d be a real treat
As it happened, it was in my own home town
But when I saw my own address, I felt like a clown
On the day of the gig I went out to the barn
My acoustic on my back; Gwenny on my arm
Seemed the client in this case was my blue tick hound
Had his tail between his legs when we came in and sat down
He nuzzled at my knee as I began to play
He howled along in tune I’m surprised to say
I took a better look and saw who else was there
Two well-behaved skunks and a dandy looking hare
I sang my heart out, and Gwenny joined along
The coyote brothers swayed back and forth to the song
There was Mr. and Mrs. Fox with their coats clean and shiny
A couple bull frogs looking dark green and slimy
A raccoon and his kids poked out of the trash can
To get them a look at the members of the band
A coyote hit on Mrs. Skunk; he had too many drinks
That’s when Mr. Skunk decided to make a stink
The bull frogs croaked and then just lay there stunned
The foxes were no fools; they both got up and run
The raccoons closed themselves inside the trash can
My dog looked groggy; could swear he said “damn!”
The Mrs. and I; we high-tailed it out of there
Filled the hot tub with tomato juice; it's true I swear
Next year he’ll have to invite friends that are a bit less farty
And, I ain't never ever gonna play another dog party
