I want to be a "Christian."
Born 1946, M, from PA, United StatesI want to be a Christian,
but excuse me if you will,
I still would like to make a stand
with those who rape, and kill.
I still desire to child-abuse,
and savage up my wife,
adulterate without excuse,
and seethe with hate and strife.
I still desire the sinful fire
of lying to the hilt,
deceitful, full of vile desires,
without a twinge of guilt.
I strongly yearn to fill my mind,
with putrid thoughts of lust.
To practice how to be unkind,
and innocents distrust,
I want to rampage all about,
with those who dwell in sin,
while celebrating with a shout,
and a wide demonic grin.
I want to be a Christian too.
Í have a right to be!
Don’t turn away as if untrue!
I’m honest! Can’t you see?

Unedited Original Version except for the final stanza.
I want to be a Christian
but excuse me if you will,
I still would like to steal and rape
and other people kill.
I still desire to child-abuse
and savage up my wife,
adulterate and fornicate
and seethe with hate and strife.
I still desire the sinful fire
of lying to the hilt,
deceiving like the Devil did
without a twinge of guilt.
I still desire to fill my mind
with putrid thoughts of lust,
with jealousies and enmities
suspicions and distrusts,
and want to rampage all about
with those who love to sin
while celebrating with a shout
and wide demonic grin.
I want to be a Christian too.
Í have a right to be.
Don’t turn away as if untrue!
I’m honest! Can’t you see?

01/18/2023Addendum: The poem is not intended to be understood literally. In short, it is not conveying a desire to do those things mentuioned but condeming them and the speaker's [a fictitious individual and definitely not me] attitude.
It is uses verbal irony to convey an annoying reality that has plagued Christianity ever since its inception, the hypocritical claiming of being a Christian while behaving like Satan the Devil himself. The reason I feel impelled to write about it is because I have personally been a victim of the fanatical demonic antics of such false Christians. In fact, I wrote a short story about such a person whose persecution cost me my job, and whose devilish behavior while identifying with Christ, very effectively illustrares the behavior that the poem briefly describes. Why such individuals don't openly worship Satan instead of choosing to identify with Jesus is beyond me.
