Friendships around the world
Born 1980, F, from Annandale, VA, United StatesI have disabilities and I am doing a project for disabilities awareness month. And this is my project story called Friends around the world for people with disabilities. Friendship is an essential part of life and is often even more important for people with disabilities. People with disabilities can feel excluded and isolated from their peers due to physical or mental impairments, but friendship can be a powerful force in helping them cope with the challenges of disability.
Thankfully, there are now many networks and organizations that promote meaningful connections between people with disabilities and their peers around the world. For example, World Enabled is a global organization that works to foster inclusion for people with disabilities through leadership training, advocacy, and increased access to education and employment opportunities. Through their efforts, they create communities of friendship and support that bridge cultural differences and create understanding.
Similarly, FRIENDS International is a network of organizations working with people with disabilities in countries around the world. They have programs designed to help individuals learn social skills and develop relationships through mentorship, group activities, and peer support.
In addition, many online programs and chatrooms are available, providing access to a worldwide community of friendship and understanding when other forms of connection might be difficult.
Overall, there are many ways that people with disabilities are able to make friends and form meaningful connections around the world. Whether online or in person, friendships built around common interests, experiences, and understanding can not only provide comfort and support to those with disabilities, but can also help break down barriers and create a more inclusive society.

02/28/2023Thank you so much. My Daughter is austic. I will share this with her. She often feels excluded because some people don't know how to communicate without leading her to a meltdown.
