The White Eyes
Born 2008, M, from Lucknow/ UP, IndiaAccording to the 10-years old Arun, no one can tell him stories better than his grandfather.
One night, he demanded a horror story. His grandfather hesitated. But, when Arun assured that he is brave, his grandfather smiled and began telling Arun his own horror story...
--------
It happened, when I was 25 years old... I remember clearly. I and my friend had just slept in the train, when it stopped at our station, Delhi... We left the train, in the middle of the night. We were brave and sort of... careless... The station was unusually silent and dark. We lot our lamps and, taking our briefcases in our hand, went for the exit.
Just when we had walked some fifteen steps, looking on my left, at a distance, I saw a pair of pearly white eyes, shining in the dark. But, the moment I looked at it, it disappeared... I thought it was some sort of strange reflection...
Soon, we reached a collosal hall. It was empty, too. The sound of our footsteps echoed in the eerie silence... At the other end of the hall, there was a large door... The Exit... Taking two steps at a time, we rushed to it. We were only a dozen steps to the door, when something happened...
Everything went even darker; our lamps, extinguished. My heart, now, was pounding hard... Something very strange was happening, I could sense it... Soon, I found myself soaked in sweat, breathing sharp, quick breaths...
Then, I felt something that made the hair on the back of my neck, stand...
If my senses weren't deceiving me, then surely some strange, tall and thin four-legged creature was circling us... I could definitely see its pearly white eyes, agleam in the darkness... Then, I heard a high pitched, cold voice that said, 'Only One...'
I didn't understand it. What was happening, I did not know. I tried to speak but, couldn't hear my own voice... Suddenly, I heard a shrill cry, piercing the silence and I fainted...
Next, when I woke, the sun was shining in the sky. I was surrounded by a group of people. Looking more clearly, I saw that they were wearing uniforms -- Police Uniforms. At some distance, another group of policemen was standing, enclosing among them a strange, thin thing that I didn't know about... I went near and looked at the thing, closely. The thing that I saw, made me shriek...
It was half a human body... My friend's body... Half of it was not there. I asked one of the policemen about the other half and he said it was missing...
Fear rose so high in me that I shrieked again. I knew who had done what... The mysterious creature had eaten half of my friend's body... I told this to the police... They heard everything and then took me to the police station...
----------
'What happened then?!' Arun asked. He was almost fully covered in the blanket.
'That, Arun, is the story for tomorrow. Good night, brave boy,' said his grandfather and, switching the lights off, he left the room.
Arun slept...
After some hours, his thirst woke him up again. The room was still dark. He got up and was going to switch on the lights, when, from a corner of his room, he saw a pair of shining blank white eyes, staring at him...
