The Memory Book - 2
Born 2009, M, from Kerala, India.png)
Several years had passed since Akira's death, and Ayumi had finally found a way to move forward with her life. She had sought professional help and had received therapy to deal with her grief-induced hallucinations. She had also found love and had started a family of her own. But then, one day, she received a phone call that would turn her life upside down once again.
The caller identified himself as a private investigator and claimed to have information about Akira's disappearance and death. She was shocked and confused. She had accepted that her brother was gone and had moved on with her life. But the private investigator's words ignited a spark of hope inside her that she couldn't ignore.
She met with the private investigator and was presented with a file of evidence that suggested that Akira's death may not have been what it seemed. There were inconsistencies in the police report, witness statements that didn't add up, and even CCTV footage that showed someone who resembled Akira walking around the city after his supposed death.
She was overwhelmed by the new information. She couldn't believe that her brother may still be alive. She decided to investigate further and recruited the help of her husband, who was a former detective.
Together, they pieced together a trail of evidence that led them to a dark conspiracy involving a pharmaceutical company that had been conducting illegal and dangerous medical experiments on unsuspecting patients, including Akira.
In court, She and her husband's lawyer presented evidence of the pharmaceutical company's illegal activities, while the prosecutor argued that their actions were justified in the name of medical research.
"You claim that your actions were justified, but the evidence shows that you were conducting dangerous and illegal medical experiments on innocent people," Ayumi's lawyer said, looking straight at the prosecutor.
"Our company has always followed strict protocols and guidelines when it comes to medical research. We would never knowingly harm our patients," the prosecutor replied, trying to maintain a calm demeanor.
"But the evidence shows otherwise. You kidnapped my client's brother, used him as a test subject without his consent, and then covered up his supposed death to avoid any accountability," Ayumi's lawyer countered, his voice rising with each word.
"I assure you, our company had no involvement in your client's brother's disappearance," the prosecutor maintained.
At this point, She couldn't stay silent any longer. "How can you say that when the evidence clearly shows that your company was involved?" she shouted, her voice cracking with emotion.
The judge had to call for order in the court, but the damage had been done. She outburst had made it clear to everyone in the room just how personal this case was for her.
Despite the prosecutor's best efforts, She and her family were eventually able to win their case and bring the pharmaceutical company to justice.
However, even after the verdict was delivered and the pharmaceutical company was held accountable for their actions, She was left with a lingering feeling of unease. She couldn't shake off the feeling that there was still something missing, something that she couldn't quite put her finger on.
Months went by, and She continued to investigate on her own, trying to find any clues that may have been overlooked during the trial. And then, one day, she received an anonymous message on her phone, with a video attached.
The video showed a dark room, with a figure sitting in the shadows. The figure spoke in a distorted voice, saying, "You may have won the battle, but the war is far from over. There are more secrets to uncover, more lies to expose. The truth is out there, Ayumi, but are you willing to pay the price to find it?"
She was shaken by the video. Who had sent it? And what did they mean by "the price"? Was someone trying to intimidate her into dropping the case? Or was there really more to uncover?
She shared the video with her husband, who was just as perplexed as she was. They decided to bring the video to the attention of the authorities, but when they did, they were met with skepticism.
"There's no evidence that this video is linked to the pharmaceutical company case," the detective assigned to their case said, brushing off their concerns.
But She couldn't shake off the feeling that there was something more to the story. She kept digging, even when it seemed like everyone else had given up on the case.
And then, one day, she received another anonymous message, this time with a set of coordinates and a cryptic message: "Come alone. And be prepared to learn the truth."
She knew it was a risk, but she couldn't resist the urge to find out what was waiting for her at the coordinates. She packed a bag and left her family behind, telling them she was going on a business trip.
When she arrived at the location, she was surprised to find a deserted warehouse. She cautiously made her way inside, and as she stepped into the dimly lit room, she was suddenly hit on the head from behind.
When she came to, she was tied up, with a hood over her head. She couldn't see anything, but she could hear the sound of footsteps approaching.
"Welcome, Ayumi," a familiar voice said. "I've been waiting for you."
Who was behind the voice? And what was their endgame? Her mind raced with questions, as she struggled against her restraints, unsure of what her fate would be. The mystery of Akira's death may have been solved, but it seemed like she had stumbled onto a whole new web of secrets and lies.
