Sky Heart
Born 1954, M, from Viera/FL, United States.jpeg)
At Lone Cabbage Fish Camp one afternoon
With crackers and cowgirls overlooking a river,
Where airboats roared while looking for gators,
I would not have expected romance to strike.
Watching the Just Us band play tunes
For aging rock and rollers.
I wandered through the crowd watching for ladies
Dancing in their chairs with smiles and wiggles.
Approached a table of bobbing ladies my age
Asked who wanted to dance.
Melissa spoke first, “I’ll dance with you.”
And thus, our unexpected love story began.
She smiled as I danced every twist and spin I knew,
She kept up with me, flirting with smiles.
Her gorgeous eyes pulsated like none before.
At the end of the song, I knew she was special.
A whirlwind romance began the next night,
As we kissed under a full moon on the beach.
Intensity made me back away with caution.
I wasn’t ready for a Godfather lightning bolt.
Down my interview list I went
Box after box checked, no faults were found
With this blond country girl from Indiana.
Coincidental similarities amazed us over and over.
Strong and smart, Melissa had a will of her own,
Dancing far better than I, she pleased me.
Her teases and smiles were amazing,
Her pulsating eyes melted me over and over.
Caution made me separate several times,
My walls would not let love in.
Melissa waited for me to come back,
Each time deeper and more passionate.
Too far too fast! I put on my brakes again,
Walking away from romance without a word.
Shredding Melissa with pain.
She cried, “Why did you do this again?”
I had an age problem I thought would hurt her
Like happened with a previous love.
I cared too much to put her through that
And quit before any hurt began.
She called days later to vent her pain,
I shed tears in agony deserved.
Abruptly she said, ”Stop. A plane is outside.”
I have to you send a picture.”
I melted again to see a skywriting plane
Had made a heart in the sky.
At the same time a lightbulb near me
Blew out putting me into darkness.
Tears rolled down my cheeks
As these messages filled my heart.
“I’ll soon be at your door,” I said.
“The story isn’t over,” she quietly said.

08/29/2023Gordon,
I hope this story is current! I think it may be....and finding love through walls is not an easy thing to do. I am glad she pounded them down.

08/30/2023Gordon, This made my day! Taking the hard blows of grief as you did a few years back, and being brave enough to overcome the fear of losing love again...and reach out for it. That, my friend is Hero level stuff. And you tell her (while giving her a hug!) she is a real strong kind woman, to stick around until that thick Engineering/Texan wall could be torn down. So happy for you both! An Engineer writing a beautiful love poem...will miracles never cease?!
Smiles, Kevin
