The Mirror
Born 1960, F, from San Antonio Texas, United StatesWhen I first moved
to the small town, I lived
In a rundown house.
Unfortunately my resources
were limited and I had
to live in a bad neighborhood.
My rental house was small
and rat infested. The residents of
This town kept to themselves and I
often felt like an outsider.
The mirror in my bedroom
had a dark shadowy spot
in the corner. It looked creepy but I
told myself to ignore it.
But sometimes I swear
the shadow pulsated
like it was breathing. I touched this
dark creepy spot, only once. Nothing happened but
I could almost swear it moved ever so slightly.
When my lease ran out I
moved to a bigger town
With more modern housing,
The neighborhood and
residents were great.
The residents of this town
Were warm and inviting.
I was often asked to join them
at Picnics, to Church, and sometimes
to Dances.
This house was perfect.
Except for one little flaw.
The mirror in my bedroom
had a dark shadowy spot
that pulsated, like
it was breathing.
Do I dare touch it?

08/15/2023Shirley, what a great concept for a poem. Bettering your life but the mirror follows you as if someone or something is watching you! So many possibilities. Leaving your readers to decide is a thiught provoking idea! A well-deserved short story star of the day!

08/15/2023Your poem beautifully captures the journey of transformation and resilience. The contrast between the challenging past and the promising present creates a sense of growth and hope. The imagery of the dark shadowy spot in the mirror adds an intriguing layer of mystery and curiosity to the narrative. Well done!

06/13/2023Very good story Shirley. I wonder if that is the same mirror and it mysteriously appeared in her new bedroom. Only the author knows for sure. Nice piece.
Blessings Shelly
