Like a Breeze
Born 1972, F, from Ontario, CanadaLike a Breeze
And she counted the days
The months and the years
As she watched the boy play
Free from all fears
And she listened to stories
Some grand and some small
As she sang him sweet songs
Through springtime and fall
And she watched the boy sleep
Tucked into his bed
As she turned off his light
Closed the book that they read
And she kept the boy safe
From wicked and scorn
As she taught him the lessons
To guide and to warn
And she filled him with love
And the young years grew few
As she slept she would marvel
Of all that he knew
And she dreamed all the dreams
That all mothers would
As she slowly let go
Doing all that she could
And she noticed one day
He stood tall on the land
As she looked in his eyes
His face like a man
And she knew time had come
To let the boy fly
As she saw his bright mind
Reach for the sky
And she thought all the thoughts
Full of wishes and hope
As she hugged her young man
Then untied the rope
And she watched ever more
Every step that he took
As the pride in his journey
Could not overlook
And she sat with her coffee
Content and at ease
As she pondered how life
Flies by like a breeze

09/21/2023You have wonderfully stated the facts and how a person feels when his/her child grows up. One day you are taking them to school and before you know it, they are going for some interview for the job. It is a proud and hard time as a parent, must be harder for parents to let go of their daughters after marriage. There is a saying, 'You don't get to know about time with your close ones, but you get to know about your close ones with time.' Having your parents and their love is the most priceless thing. Really sweet poem. Keep going.

09/21/2023How true! It was hard seeing my son go off to university. The house became too quiet. Boy, does time fly!
Cheers,
Connie

09/21/2023I absolutely LOVE this. It says everything about loving a child and knowing when to let them fly. Bittersweet poem about unconditional love! A well-deserved short story star of the day!
