The City
Born 1997, F, from MO, United StatesThe city burned, lighting up the night sky and the flames devoured anything that was left untouched by it. Outside the city stood a man and he watched it burn. He knew everyone was dead and the invaders had left nothing like it was before the attack. It was his city or used to be his city since it was now, but a memory. He remembered growing up there. He was a happy little kid who loved to dance and sing but was teased by all the other older children all the time. He grimaced when he remembered all the harsh and cruel names they called him, but he had long forgiven them as they all got older. He remembered all the bitter winters when the city was on the brink of starvation until Spring finally came and it was back to happiness. Growing up in such a huge city had its advantages and disadvantages. Everything was so close to homes so there was never a backyard to play in and all the children had to play in the dirty streets.
It stunk there and the man wrinkled his nose as he remembered the foul smells. He felt a tear come to his eyes when his mother suddenly died of disease like many others. His father refused to move to somewhere better and happier. The man gritted his teeth as he remembered his hatred for his cruel father and his forever-teasing friends. He remembered the people who would harass him and annoy him without end, but he knew he had also forgiven them over the years and learned to leave it behind him. After he was done looking at the burning city, he turned away and started to leave, but he glances back and whispered, “I guess they deserved what they got. They shouldn’t have wronged me. As he turned back around and walked away, he never glanced back again and whispered, “Goodbye my sweet little “immortal” dears. Have fun in the fire, which is where you belong.” The End.
