The Blood Donation

By Hannah Stahlheber
Born 2002, F, from Denver, Colorado, United States

The Blood Donation

One chilly October day, I was walking home from the store, as I was buying candy for trick or treating that night. As I was walking, I realized I had my blood donation in an hour! My walk turned into a run as I realized I still had to get ready and be there twenty minutes early. I was so focused; I didn’t notice the black jeep slowly following me. Once I got home, I got ready and left for my donation. In the parking lot, I noticed the black jeep that I vaguely remember seeing earlier. However, I just brushed it off and assumed it was nothing. As I sat in the waiting room, I started to get really freaked out. I just told myself it was nothing and I was probably going crazy. But my gut was telling me something was up. After what seemed like an hour, the lady drawing my blood called me in. She had a funny accent, and she had a weird limp, which only unnerved me more. I told myself it was nothing and to get over it. I couldn’t have been more wrong. As soon as I got in the room, she smiled and stuck the needle into my arm. I started noticing some strange things. Her skin was so pale, and not just I’ve-never-been-to-a-beach pale, but sickening pale. And her teeth. They were oddly shaped… Almost like fangs. And the amount of blood she was drawing… I almost passed out at the sight. It was way more than they usually draw. “Isn’t this a little too much blood?” I asked in a shaky voice.
She made a deep gurgling sound in the back of her throat and lunged at my neck. That’s the last thing I remembered.
I woke up to the sound of beeping machines. There were many bags of blood around me. “What hap-“I trailed off as I remembered. The blood donation. The vampire lady. “ You almost died,” the doctor said. “That lady was a maniac!”
“She wasn’t a lady!” I protested. “She was a vampire!”
The doctor just laughed at me.
All the way home, I thought about this. She was a vampire I was sure of it. In fact, still to this day, I think about this in most of my waking hours. Who she was and what she did.
