Wanted: Cat Supervisor
Born 1980, F, from Eagan, MN, United StatesWanted: live-in cat supervisor.
We have a very naughty cat. He knows that he is allowed only in our bedroom and in the basement; however, he likes to dart through the basement or bedroom door the instant that it opens and then run wherever he pleases, particularly behind the couch where he then has access to the curtains. He’s already proven that he can destroy curtains, so this causes us some stress.
Whoever we hire must be very emotionally strong and able to resist being manipulated by a cat. Specifically, if you catch him misbehaving and pick him up and tell him that he’s done a bad thing, do not let your heart be moved when his response is to rest his head on your shoulder. He does that quite often. At the moment when he should feel shame, he makes himself all love and cuddles. He is lying! He is not all love and cuddles! He needs discipline.
The person we hire needs to be someone who really has nothing else to do. This cat is a full-time job. We have no extra money, but for compensation you will have a bed in a warm house, a daily shower, and meals. You may have breaks when the cat sleeps.
What we would like is to be able to move about the house without worrying about the cat going where he shouldn’t. For example, if we carry laundry up the basement stairs, just be there to catch the cat. If he’s in our room, just be there to gather him up if he tries to run to the living room. If he starts to sneak into the bathroom, pick him up before he can make himself comfortable on the towels. On sunny days, be ready to prevent him from going outside. Although, we do have a cat stroller. Please feel free to use it. He enjoys the outings quite a lot, and the neighbors seem to get a kick out of seeing a cat in a stroller.
The job sounds easy, but it isn’t. If it were easy, we wouldn’t be reaching out and begging for help.
It is important to note that that he CAN be good, and he CAN be sweet. Your day, though busy, will have its occasional pleasant moments.
Please email us if you are interested and let us know your qualifications. Thank you!

01/17/2024Marla, I laughed through the whole classified ad! I think most people need a cat supervisor, though I'm sure my cat thinks I need one! An entertaining read! A lighthearted short story star of the day.

01/17/2024Thanks, Lillian! I wrote after our cat had been trying my patience. It seemed better to write about it than to get angry at the cat. lol

01/16/2024Awww.... he looks so sweet. Too bad his people try to confine him and keep him contained with such silly rules like where he can or cannot go. Don't they know that cats do not follow rules? Thanks for the laughs, Marla. Happy short story star of the day.
