WHERE IS HOME?
Born 1979, M, from Blantyre, MalawiWHERE IS HOME?
By M. Kaupembe
So they say, home
Is where the heart is
Well, I'd be frank
That musing resuscitates
An obnoxious ticklish premonition
Emanating fervently from this absurd hollowness
We have been made
To come to terms with
I am afraid
We might not be home
Even though we are
Don't you miss the magic
Of those flawless fluffy white crystals?
The purity of the April pink blanket in Asakusa?
Sweet autumn was alluring, wasn't it?
How about the folks?
Totemo shinsetsuna hitone?
Now here we are
Back to the streets
Where littering seems ordinary
Where corruption
Is the order of the day
Where impecuniousness
Is the talk of the town
And nobody seems to care
And why should they?
When to the general populous
This is living, in vogue
After all is said and done
We are home,
But the homesickness
Still lingers within us
As with YU Guangzhong
And we stare at every sunset wretchedly wondering
For that place yonder
never felt like home either
