The Chicken
Born 1959, M, from Stoke, United KingdomWhy did the chicken?
Nobody knows
The plot doth thicken
The north wind blows
Even the sheep
Who know all
Their silence keep
When the roosters call
The cows chew the cud
Staying away
Trampling in mud
Nothing to say
The pigs in their sty
Haven’t a clue
The horse in his stable
Knows nothing too
But one animal knows
With a Cheshire Cat smile
Will never disclose
Just not his style
The farmyard is stricken
The north wind blows
Why did the chicken?
Somebody knows…
The Chicken(Tallisman)
Why did the chicken?
Nobody knows
The plot doth thicken
The north wind blows
Even the sheep
Who know all
Their silence keep
When the roosters call
The cows chew the cud
Staying away
Trampling in mud
Nothing to say
The pigs in their sty
Haven’t a clue
The horse in his stable
Knows nothing too

With a Cheshire Cat smile

The north wind blows
Why did the chicken?

Help Us Understand What's Happening
Kevin Hughes
11/14/2023I loved it. Sure it is strange, but strange is both interesting and good. And mabe the chicken never made up its mind and just wandered over without thinking.
Smiles,
Kevin

11/14/2023This is odd one, but I like it! "The plot doth thicken" is an excellent line to make a rhyme with "chicken." I hope that you share more of your poems with us!
