The Great Sleep
Born 1992, M, from Newcastle kwazulu natal, South AfricaThe great sleep.
Who we are and what we do matters more than what external factors and forces dictate for us. It is not to say that as people we must operate in silos, but we must accept that we are part and parcel of the puzzle that is life. Well, most of the time we move in a third dimension, deep in our sleep, most of us are heroes in our dreams, we are successful but then we must wake up, then everything changes.
Only if we can perhaps, fall a bit longer in our great deep sleep, maybe we can be fulfilled. It is worthless to pass through life and never really enjoy the fruits of our hard work. It certainly is not enough to only be great in our dreams. Most lose out on experiencing life to the extent that it can offer calmness as much as it can offer difficulty and friction.
“Look to the sky they say, look into the policies they say, look to us for a better governance” Trust in us and we shall bring greatness. Mm… only if we can tell that it is all promises with no accountability. Let us lead you they say, but when we offer that opportunity all we get is. “It is not us but there are a lot of red tape in the process”. The words are larger, bigger than the actual delivery so expected and deserved. It is remarkable how easily we forget to wake from our great sleep. Even if we are woken enough, we are so focused on making it, getting a good salaried job, getting a great schooling grade, eating, sleeping, and dreaming again. Mostly we are in pursuit of what our societies tell us is worthy but most regret their choices when they are in a moment of review, moments just before the soul leaves the mortal body. A very sad reality we must all endure.
Our trusting nature as people supersedes the scrutiny of facts. How can we be skeptical though? Every day our media informs us of their version of the truth, the power of transparency is used to drive certain narratives, and it becomes mostly impossible for the average human being to be woke enough to understand the mambo jumbo and bleakness of such media deliveries. Maybe it is then justified to fall in our sleep. Perhaps it is easier to believe sci-fi storytelling in our television boxes, as they offer a glance at an abstract reality, we wish was true, anyway, those realities look way better and nicer than most people’s realities. We can not though award ignorance a high five when sometimes we need to just wake up and believe in a better world. Perhaps we must be woken enough to hold those who lie accountable to us. Ha ha ha… everything in life is politics they say but we are greater than that. We are more than just believers of nay-sayers and corrupt individuals.
Sadly, even places that should preach salvation are also in contrast struggling for survival. What good Is then the word of God when they who must lead are forced to agree to some abstract policies that threaten the very existence of their belief systems? Well, we are in a world where days are unknown to any. It becomes imperative that we create spaces of safety to allow the manifestation of great ideas that will support and keep safe our dreams and visions for the future.
If we must wake up only to be told we are unworthy, then one wonders what becomes the very essence of populating the planet Earth. Why then must we believe in those leaders who have never been truthful, who have never remained true to the promises they made to us? It becomes easy then to fall deep in our sleep and never really wake up. The third country world suffers from just putting food on the table, let alone clothing themselves but even first world countries are catching the drill on the difficulty of today’s cost of living. If sleeping must then be justified what then can we look up to for each day to be fruitful and a success?
Well, we can agree on one thing. Everyone will leave planet Earth when the souls are no more. Even the culprit can not live forever. We must trust that time is a great equalizer and a great constant when all things seem impossible. We must still wake up and believe that things could be better. We must still wake up to fight another day. We must have the courage to face all misrepresentations and improper media publications to school our younger generation to seek the truth each day. We should continue to believe in righteousness even in the midst of cruelty as the daily bread and butter.
Wake up from your great deep sleep as you deserve all great things.
