Why

Why does the winter sunshine
Feel so cold against his skin
Icicles crawling down his spine
To freeze the heart within

Why does the blackbird sing
When all around it dull and grey
He finds no joy in anything
Least of all another day

Why does his broken heart
Plead for another chance
To beg her for another start
To rekindle a lost romance

Why does his head deny
His hearts insistent demands
You cannot build on a lie
A love on shifting sands

Better to turn and walk away
Better to not ask why
Some feelings words cannot convey
So turn and say goodbye

There's a lot conveyed in those few short words. A lot of heartbreak. Heartbreak brings new happiness. Happy Short Story Star of the Day.
Blessings, Shelly

Tallisman,
That was both beautiful and profound. So much wisdom in those lines. I disagree with your assesment that "Happy endings avoid me." While the ending is not "happy" it is practical, realistic, and sound advice. Relationships end for a reason, and prepare you for not making those mistakes in the next one. Rarely can you go back an undo whatever it was that brought it to an end. But...

While the ending is not "happy" it is practical, realistic, and sound advice. Relationships end for a reason, and prepare you for not making those mistakes in the next one. Rarely can you go back an undo whatever it was that brought it to an end. But you can learn from it. And I thought your poem gave the reasons why you shouldn't try, but hinted at why it failed. Lovely. Just lovely.

So many great "whys" that only deserve one reaction, walk away because you have no control over the situation.
Thank you for sharing!
