Raindrops and Teardrops
Born 2004, F, from Helsinki, FinlandBeep beep beep bee-
I turn my alarm clock off while still lying in bed, keeping my eyes glued to the ceiling. I took a deep breath.
“Today’s the day,” I thought to myself. My eyes land on the picture above my desk.
Drip drip drip,...
***
I stare at my face while brushing my teeth, taking note of how much darker my eyebags had become. After opening the water, I spit into the sink and wipe my mouth with the back of my hand. Setting my toothbrush down, I look one last time at that empty figure staring back at me and I turn the light off.
***
As soon as leave the front door I flip my hoodie up and keep my eyes down, while the rain continues to fall. Only a few minutes pass by until I feel a tap on my shoulder.
I keep walking.
“Damien?”
I keep walking.
“Come on mate, don’t be like that,... It’s been what? Two years now? You gotta get over it,”
I stop walking.
I feel my left hand twitching slightly as a cold wet drop of rain falls from the sky above.
“Say that again,” I order him.
Silence fills the gap between us.
“Bruvh, I was just saying-” He gets cut off as I grab his shirt and lift him slightly from the ground.
The rain begins to crash against the earth.
“Don’t you ever f*cking say that to me again,” I hiss, dropping him onto the wet sidewalk.
He doesn’t know. They don’t know. A voice in the back of my head tells me.
Then I keep walking…
