Rhys

A ascendant with virtues/talents to suspend time using rhythmic pressure. A traveling vagabond who encounters evil in many ways. He makes a reputation as the “Rolling Masterpiece” never being late. He joins the Virtulent Legion temporary to facilitate the needs of the time. He uses a shield gifted to him from extraterrestrials to fight oppositional hazards. He is truly a rolling stone that reputation has no bounds.

Detective Johnson is assigned a theft case that has been passed on by others. He is not happy with the assignment especially since his case load is overwhelmingly high at the moment. Each detective is supposed to investigate no more than 5 active cases and 5 cold cases. He currently has 16 active cases and 20 cold cases. Now one more active case. He scratches his head and wonders will this ever subside? He gets a lead from an informant telling him that a stolen shipment is going to be sold to a company for $50,000. Detective Johnson meets with the informant and learns the exchange will happen two hours from now at the Huntington Pier.

Detective Johnson arrives along with back up at the Huntington Pier. The deal does happen as the informant said but a strange looking man is giving orders. The man has three huge chains around his neck, chest and waist. The pier has civilians on it so law enforcement decided to follow the seller and buyer. Detective Johnson sends one team to follow the seller and one to follow the buyer. He goes with the team that is following the buyer. He uploads photos to the national criminal database. Several warrants return and warnings. The buyer with the chains is a known Ascendent that is wanted for murder, kidnapping and unlawful distribution of medications. The IDA (Inquiry Division Agency) receives location alert hits when the warrants were confirmed by Detective Johnson. The IDA advises Detective Johnson and his Captain not to engage with ascendent Chauncy Elignton AKA Chanz. He is to do surveillance only and give updates until the IDA arrives to take over.

Chanz is a natural ascendent with elevated strength and limited energy projection. What he touches becomes an extension of him with powerful energy flowing through it. Chanz uses the chains on him as a weapon, increasing his reach and destructive capabilities. IDA creates a contract for the capture of Chanz for $100.000. Rhys picks up the contact and travels to Fort Lauderdale. While waiting Detective Johnson begins to think his team could capture Chanz and his gang with no problems. They decide to enter the compound Chanz is located in.

The team rushes the scene quickly disregarding the commands from his Captain and IDA. They make forced entry by blowing the compound door. Once inside they fight with the Chanz Gang. Bullets are discharged in all directions. Chanz shifts into action and uses two chains one in each hand to swat bullets. Detective Johnson never seen anything like that ever. Detective eyes widen and he is brought back by the magnitude of destruction and chaos brought on by Chanz. After some explosions and officers down Chanz laughs and yells “This is child's play. I brought my belt”. He radios for additional back up with heavy artillery. One strike from the chains of Chanz kills. Several officers were killed. They continue to fight back but are quickly being defeated one by one by the immense power of Chanz. One officer is thrashed by a chain sending him airborne about 20 feet. Detective Johnson uses three grenades to blast a hole in a wall. He along with several members of the team escape. They fall back to the command station with two arrested members of the Chanz Gang. Captain Ellington shakes his head. He reports the retreat and failure to IDA. Chanz and his gang escape using high speed boats.



IIDA Director Jacobs and Captain Ellington are yelling at Detective Johnson for his failure and disobeying an order. Rhys arrives on the scene and tells Jacobs and Ellington to stop the scolding. It doesn’t help and we have a job to do. He collects evidence and signals they need to do the same. He locates some drug residue and sends it to the laboratory. Several bystanders are on scene and looking at the destruction in shock. Rhys sees one bystander in a Porsche watching from afar. Rhys tells Jacobs about the possible suspect. He tells them to continue securing the scene and he will take care of the possible suspect.

The Porsche drives off and Rhys follows. He reports the license plate and description of the driver (white, female, mid 30s, blond with brunette highlights). The car returns to Emilia Trovoski. No criminal record but has been associated with the Russian Underground. The Russian Underground is a sophisticated criminal cell of ultra rich activists and savants. They are motivated by changing the world particularly in the areas of climate change, human trafficking, and stock market gains.

Emilia- “How long are you going to follow me?”

Rhys- “As long as I need to. Are you going to help me.”

Emilia- (Slyly says with a smirk) “Depends on the help you need.”

Rhys- “Let’s cut the bullsh**. I want Chanz and his gang in custody or dead.” Are you going to help or not? I am trying to trust you, but you are making it freaking difficult.”

Emilia explains that she was disrespected by Chanz and wanted revenge. She pulls down her shirt showing her shoulder revealing a burn. The burn is in the shape of an oval. The burn is the same design as the chains used by Chanz.
Emilia- “This is why I want revenge. Do you think I am the only woman he has hurt like this? Think of all the people that were hurt or killed today by him. One damn day. He needs to be stopped.”

She opens her purse revealing a stainless-steel revolver. Rhys laughs, that would do the job. If you had enough bullets. She agrees to help him if he allows her to accompany him and bring Chanz and his gang to justice. Rhys laughs and agrees after she reveals the location of the second base of operations of the Chanz.

The second base is inside a ship. The ship is outfitted with an arsenal of weapons. Rhys shakes his head and says, “Smart Man”. The ship is fast, can defend and leave on a whim if attacked. It will be difficult to apprehend Chanz and the gang by himself. The apprehension must be coordinated. Three teams: one on the water, second in the air and the third on foot. The IDA authorizes and creates the three teams. They secretly evacuate as many people as possible from the area.

One of the Chanz gang members sees the last group of persons being evacuated and alerts the rest. The IDA along with local law enforcement converge on the ship. Rhys warns them to set a perimeter further away. The ship has an aegis combat system armed with multiple bushmasters. Once again, they don’t listen. The police armored vehicle is obliterated by the bushmasters. Rhys shifts into his abilities/powers and slows time. He pushes and ricochets the bullets and ordinances from striking the second police armored vehicle. The armored vehicle retreats after being saved by Rhys.



The water team uses a MK 19 grenade launcher to disable the bushmasters. Rhys quickly enters the ship using his shield to deflect bullets. He also uses his time altering talent to redirect and stop bullets from harming him. Detective Johnson follows, looking to redeem himself. Rhys tells Detective Johnson and Emilia to be careful. They engage the gang members. Two battles ensued. The IDA and local police are exchanging munitions with the gang members on the exterior while Rhys, Detective Johnson and Emilia are in the interior. The naval team targets the ships rotors to disable its capability to flee.
Emilia shoots several gang members and tries to find Chanz. Detective Johnson helps Emilia as they search the ship. Rhys separates from the two and goes to the main deck. Chanz is there waiting ready!

Chanz- “So you think you can bring me in.”

Rhys- Stares at Chanz eyes and responds, “Dead or alive”.

Chanz tries a spinning attack with his chains. Rhys deflects the chains with his shield and counters with two quick punches to the head (Left and Right). Chanz steps back in disbelief. He can’t track Rhys when he manipulates time and objects. It all looks like a blur. Chanz, angered and frustrated, does a cyclone attack attempting to hit anything in the facility. The ship walls are battered, and the roof begins to collapse. Rhys sees this and uses the environment as an ally. He continues to dodge and attack Chanz. He lands devastating blows to his body and head. Rhys breaks down the ceiling after Chanz did majority of the structural damage during the fight. The ceiling collapsed on Chanz incapacitating him.

Emilia enters the room and points her gun at Chanz head. She pulls the trigger and Rhys deflects the bullet. He tells her not like this. She drops the gun and begins to cry. Detective Johnson reports the successful apprehension of Chanz and his gang interior forces. The IDA reports they also defeated the exterior forces. Rhys leaves shortly after receiving payment for fulfilling the contract.
