It's not true
Born 2006, F, from Pakistan/lahore, PakistanTitle: "It's Not True"
Sophia had always felt like something was off. She lived in a grand mansion with her wealthy parents, but she couldn't shake the feeling that they weren't her real family. She had no memories of her life before the age of five, and her parents brushed off her questions with vague answers.
As she grew older, Sophia's doubts only intensified. She began to notice strange inconsistencies in her parents' stories and behaviors. They seemed to be hiding something from her, but what?
One day, Sophia stumbled upon an old trunk in the attic, locked away and covered in dust. She opened it, and inside, she found a stack of letters and a small, faded photograph. The letters were addressed to her, and the photograph showed a woman holding a baby - Sophia as an infant.
The letters revealed the shocking truth: Sophia's real mother had been a young woman who couldn't care for her, and her wealthy parents had adopted her. But why had they kept it a secret?
Sophia felt a mix of emotions:
anger, sadness, and confusion.
She confronted her parents, who finally confessed the truth. They had wanted to protect her from the pain of her past, but in doing so, they had only caused more hurt.
Sophia found her true family and learned that
"home is where the heart is, not where the wealth is."

07/13/2024Well told. I think that every adopted child feels a pain, however hidden, of being not good enough. They sense that their parents choose not to raise them, even though they are not mature enough to understand the reasons. I am lucky that I was not adopted so I can only theorize about how it must feel. I like to think that once life grants it's perspective, the adoptee will be able to understand, even though the pain caused to a child is almost never able to be erased by mere intellect.
