The Horses of MossWood Stables
Born 2013, F, from Harpenden, United KingdomThere's a stables, not far from here, where peculiar things happen. It's not necessarily the stables that are absurd, it's more the horses that are unusual. Mosswood stables has five horses (six if you include the foal) and this story starts with Blondie, a skewbald mare, having a doze in the vast fields. She blinked sleepily and surveyed Bay the dappled grey with her young foal Oreo drinking from the rusty water troughs, that's the problem with MossWood stables: every thing is old and rusty. Blondie stood up stretching her legs casually. Tomorrow was the tournament, she would be competing in cross country and Lizard, who was now grazing elsewhere in the field with The Colonel, would be competing in dressage. They had a bet with Waltzer that Lizard wouldn't last five minutes without bucking off her rider. But that really was just The Colonel being sour for not being chosen.
That night in the cosy stables -now this is where things get interesting- they had their weekly meeting. The Colonel was just starting about exactly why he should be competing in dressage and not Lizard when they heard footsteps outside. "Strange," muttered Bay interrupting the speech, "no one in their right minds should be out at this time of night." The others looked from one another and listened to Oreo snoring who had long since fallen asleep in boredness of the midnight meeting. "Changing subject, I say we call it a night." Waltzer said. The others whinnied in agreement (including the Colonel even though it was clear he wanted to continue his rambling).
It wasn't long after a few minutes of silence the footsteps were getting alarmingly close when a van pulled up with the sound of a car door being opened. Then, adding to the jumble of noises, muted whispering sounded and the doors to the stables were flung open, lightning cracked outside and the storm flew in, rain pelting down and two hooded silhouettes could be seen. Everything went dreadfully eerie, everyone soon knew something was off, very off. In their hands were whips and a headcollar. Slowly and carefully the two figures moved towards The Colonel. Although he was full of himself, he wasn't stupid. These people didn't mean well. As they edged closer, the prize winning palomino made a bolt for it. Rearing up he jumped over the stable door and as they lashed their whips at him he gave one a sharp kick in the stomach. The other person took a step back. Lizard charged angrily breaking the stable door clean off. the horse thieves made a clever run for it. But once Lizard has set her mind to something, she will do nothing but get that something and in this case it was revenge. But soon all five horses came galloping out. Oreo had woken up but was just told by her mother not to join in.
I am afraid to say that the owners of MossWood Stables got the most terrible shock when they came out to see what the commotion was. They soon called the police after herding the overexcited horses back to their stalls. The next morning, The Colonel was so happy about his latest legendary feat of kicking a horse thief that he didn't even argue with Lizard. The horse tournament went well. And, if you ever come across The Colonel, he'll be more than glad to share his tale and he will have a jolly good time exaggerating it. But, that's just one of the many peculiar things that happen at MossWood Stables.
