Born 2006, F, from Lahore, Pakistan**The Strange House on the Hill**
As I walked down the deserted path, the trees looming above me like skeletal fingers, I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. I had never been to this part of town before, and the GPS on my phone had led me to this eerie, isolated spot. Suddenly, a house came into view, its tall spires and turrets reaching towards the sky like grasping hands.
My name is David, and I was on my way to my uncle's house, where I would be staying for a while. My father had passed away recently, and my uncle, David, was my only living relative. I had never met him before, but my father had told me stories about him - how he was a greedy and ruthless man who would stop at nothing to get what he wanted.
As I approached the house, I noticed that it was shrouded in an aura of darkness. The windows were like empty eyes, staring back at me with an unsettling intensity. I felt a shiver run down my spine as I pushed open the creaking front door and stepped inside.
My uncle was waiting for me in the foyer, his beady eyes fixed on me with an unnerving scrutiny. 'Ah, David,' he said, his voice dripping with insincerity. 'Welcome to my humble abode. I'm so glad you could make it.'
I tried to hide my unease, but my uncle's mannerisms only made me more suspicious. He showed me to my room, a damp and musty space with a small, narrow bed. As I settled in, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was trapped.
That night, I began to notice strange noises in the house. Creaks and groans echoed through the corridors, and I caught glimpses of shadowy figures flitting around the edges of my vision. I tried to convince myself it was just my imagination, but deep down, I knew something was off.
It wasn't until I stumbled upon my uncle's secret laboratory in the basement that I realized the true extent of his depravity. He was practicing black magic, and I had a feeling that I was the target of his dark rituals.
Determined to escape, I began to gather my belongings, but my uncle caught me in the act. His eyes blazed with fury as he sneered at me, baring his teeth. 'You think you can leave me?' he spat. 'You're going to stay here and inherit your father's fortune - after I've eliminated you, of course.'
I knew I had to act fast. I managed to overpower my uncle and flee the house, but not before he cast a curse on me. I could feel the dark magic coursing through my veins, threatening to consume me.
I ran through the forest, desperate to find a way to break the curse. As I stumbled through the underbrush, I stumbled upon a familiar landmark - my father's grave. I had visited it once before, when I was a child, and I remembered the words my father had spoken to me then: 'No matter what happens, always remember that I love you, and I'll always be with you.'
As I stood before the grave, something strange happened. The dark magic began to dissipate, and I felt a warm, comforting presence envelop me. It was my father, watching over me from beyond the grave.
With newfound courage, I turned to face my uncle, who had followed me to the graveyard. 'You may have power,' I said, 'but you'll never have my father's love. And with that, you'll never have me.'
My uncle snarled, but he knew he was defeated. As the sun rose over the horizon, banishing the shadows, I felt the curse lift, and I was finally free.
I stood tall, my heart full of gratitude for my father's love, which had protected me from the darkness. And as I walked away from the graveyard, I knew that I would always carry his spirit with me, guiding me through the darkest of times.

07/16/2024A good story that kept me reading quickly to see how David would escape. You might want to correct the slight inconsistency regarding his father's death if you plan to republish elsewhere. The story starts off with the father dying recently, but ends at the father's grave that he had visited as a child. Still, a nice riviting story!
