The story of a superhero
Born 1995, F, from Medellin, ColombiaToday I’m going to tell you a story of a superhero, her name was Cara. She was a normal woman, one of those whom you wouldn’t take out of the crowd, but she was a superhero for her community. She lived in a little town in the middle of nowhere. One of those places seventy years ago, didn't have proper roads to get there and ,of course, didn’t have electricity. This is where our superhero’s story began.
Clara, or how her family and friends know her, Clarita, was a married woman with eight kids. they lived with the minimum economically speaking but full of love. People say she was beautiful, strong, and a very hard worker. She was pregnant with her ninth baby when some men from the city came to town with the intention to build an access road and the lines for electricity, the only thing they asked for was to have a place to sleep and food.
The first woman to offer to host those people was Rosita, an old widow with no children, a loner who no one knew much about. Not long after these men started to work, they were packing their things to leave and not come back. Rosita, Although well intentioned, was a terrible cook, and the space for these people in her house, was too small.
This is when Clarita comes up and offers her house, against her husband’s wishes. She wakes up at 4 in the morning to cook the men’s breakfast, before they go to work, clean the house and feed her family by ten, and then start with lunch to be ready by eleven thirty to feed everyone, family and men. At 4 pm when the men who were doing a great service to this community arrived home, Clarita washed their filthy clothes and had dinner ready by 6. She had the same routine every day for a year. she never complained even though she was tired because she knew the benefit her family and community would have for her sacrifice when those men finished their jobs in town.
Now, this community in the middle of nowhere has an access road and electricity, and this is the story of how Clarita becomes an unexpected hero, a superhero I call grandma.

07/26/2024That brought tears to my eyes. You are descended from a Superhero....it is in your genes. I do hope you showed this to her. And your Mother too. And I agree, she is a Super Hero!

07/19/2024Everyone thinks highly of their Grandma, usually related to their baking skills. Your's truly was a superhero to have worked so unselfishly for others. Thanks for the story.
