"Come on pups, let's go outside!"
Daisy picked up her head and stared at her upright companion. Her brother was first to the door, her two sisters close behind him. She continued staring until the order was given again.
"Daisy, come! Outside!", Her companion said. Daisy rose to her feet and happily pranced out the door. Without wasting any time, she headed straight for her favorite spot in the grass to roll around and play. But as she drew closer, she
could tell something was wrong. A scent was present, and it wasn't her own.
She slowly approaches the area with her nose to the ground. Just as she recognized the scent, she saw something move in the corner of her eye. She swiftly raises her head to see what it was. She scanned the entire area but still didn't see anything. She began sniffing around again, searching for the scent. It was gone.
Eventually, she picks up the scent once more. Following it a short way into the woods. As she continued through the brush, the scent got stronger and stronger. She continued her hunt, sniffing every leaf, stick and pine cone. But still nothing. Seeming pointless, she gives up her search and returns to her spot in the grass.
About half way back, she spots something moving in the distance. She crouches real low and begins moving toward whatever it is she saw. Getting closer, she can smell it's scent. It matched the same scent from her spot in the grass. She knew she had finally found the intruder.
She carefully and methodically moves closer and closer. It still hasn't noticed her. Just when she's about to pounce, there's shouting in the distance.
"Daisy! Come on, girl!"
Startled, the little creature perked it's ears. Daisy reacts by fully lying down to avoid being seen. But it failed. The little creature took off and Daisy bolted after it. It hopped and ran further into the woods with Daisy hot on it's trail. She nipped at it's fluffy tail, causing it to begin hopping in a zigzag pattern. Suddenly, there was another call from her upright companion.
"Daisy! Where are ya, girl?"
Ignoring the call, Daisy stayed on the little creature's tail until, finally, it came up to a small stream of water. Unable to jump across, it cut to the left to run alongside the stream. Daisy took a big leap, landing directly in front of it. The creature comes to an immediate halt and turns to run the other way.
The creature gets one good hop in before Daisy pounces, pinning her prey to the dirt. She, then, sinks her fang-like teeth into it's neck, putting the unfortunate creature out of it's misery. She picks up her kill, carrying it in her mouth. Yet another call echoes from her companion.
"Daisy! Come on, girl! It's time to go inside!"
Daisy came running out of the woods and straight to her companion with the kill in her mouth, her tail wagging in pure excitement. She nudges her companion's hand, offering up her kill.
"Whatcha got there, Daisy girl?", asked her companion. She stands in front of her companion, drops her kill at their feet, giving it up to the only one she loves more than herself.

08/20/2024I really like reading the puppy's point of view. In my wasted youth I devoured untold books about dogs. Thinks for reminding me of happy times!
