Olu's Diary: Summer of a lifetime
Born 2011, M, from Lagos, Nigeria*Olu's diary : Summer of a life time*
I still remember those days when i would have woken up around 5am , pack my bags ,freshen up , the rushing and hustle I do to follow mum's car , but no more of those things again because school vacated last week , I am so happy and really thrilled about my summer holiday because it was a huge hit , my parents took me to Lagos city where I had fun learning new things and how I made new Friends.
it all began when my parents told me we're booking a first class trip from Portharcourt to Lagos in which I did not believe , my eyes opened wide in awe when we boarded the plane with my siblings, I was so shocked , happy and let's say I had a mixed feeling, while on the plane we had different things presented to us like Abacha which was African salad and I haven't tried it before but when I got to taste it oh my God it was delicious and the most sweetest thing I have taken but don't let my mom know that I said Abacha was the sweetest thing I have ever tasted because I promised her that no other food is sweeter than hers.
When we landed at Ikeja Lagos , my heart was filled with Anticipation and I was eager to explore the city. We left the airport and headed for Lagos Oriental Hotel at Victoria Island, at first I don't know that is where we're lodging, when we got there my jaw dropped because I only saw this Hotel on TV and I never expected to be in it . Immediately they showed us our room, I ran there jumped on the bed and felt how soft it was . Then my Elder sister Dara shooked at her head and said"when will you be matured" , I laughed out loud and she just looked at me then she continued watching Tiktok on her phone.
later that day we had a movie night with each other , my dad ordered KFC chicken bucket, popcorn and of course Soda to go with it . we watched Musica which was rated thirteen , my sister couldn't stop crying non stop because of how emotional it was but according to me it was so boring because it was a romance movie and am much of an horror guy.
The next day , after our breakfast we headed for Lekki Conservation center , while in the car I shooted a Tiktok video with my sister and am hoping to get famous from that video because am a ? famous celeb even though my family members don't believe me , when we got to Lekki Conservation center I had fun with the animals, I took a lot of pictures, videos and I met Pius , a young boy who seems to be 12years old , we had fun together and instantly we became friends we ran around, visit and siting different animals and as if My sister was lucky she became friends with Pius's elder sister Mary not to lie they were two peas in a pod with their girlish and their sassy attitude .
When the day came to an end, I never wanted it to but I had to part ways with my bro Pius but we promised each other to keep in touch. We went back to our hotels where I instantly dosed off and dreamt of the fun I had with Pius.
The next day, my parents took me to Eko market which was the biggest in Lagos , oh my God this market was huge and it had a huge population of people, we went shopping for local items , I tried baba dudu which was kind off a coconut candy and it was sweet , while exploring the market with my family I met Zainab who was an Hausa girl , she was very sweet , kind and she helped us to get around the market. When we were almost done with exploring the market, Zainab took me and my parents to try Masa , an Hausa snack made with rice and it was so good that I ate a lot till I couldn't.
My parents shopped for a lot of things like Adire , beads, necklaces , bracelets and lots of things , when we got back to our hotel we were so exhausted and tired that we dosed off, when I woke up in the mid night I saw a text from Pius and instantly we chatted till day break , we had Amala , ewedu and Gbegiri which was a Yoruba local dish and among all the food I have tasted I love Amala better . We stayed in our hotel and had quality time to rest and have fun because of the trip we had earlier.
The next day, my father decided to take us to his home town Abeokuta which was a bit far from Lagos, we boarded a train from Ikeja to Abeokuta, when we got to the Egba people residence (Abeokuta), we visited Obasanjo presidential library where I had a blast learning history and visiting the Zoo where I met Aremu the lion . After the fun we had at the library, we went to Olumo rock, where we learnt about the Rich history of the Egba people and how the rock protected the people of Egba . When we got to the top of the rock the tour guide and my family rejoiced and danced as a local band sang an Egba song.
After exploring Abeokuta, we went back to Lagos , and as we spent time together visiting other places like Nike art gallery, going to Omu resort , visiting a cinema where we watched"Funmilayo ransome kuti,"where I learnt about colonialism and how my native people hated colonialism because of its effects, we also went to University of Suya where we had great and delicious Suya and on the last day of our stay in Lagos we went to Elegushi beach where I enjoyed the cool breeze and had horse riding, my parents and dara had a surprise for me they blindfolded my eyes and took me to Meet Pius , I was happy and instantly I hugged him , we spent time together playing on the beach, dancing to Nigerian music and having different snacks like Suya, shawarma, barbeque and other things.
when we left Lagos, I was a bit sad leaving my gee Pius alone but recapping all the things and fun we did in Lagos made me feel like the happiest man in Earth and hoping to visit Lagos again but I still keep in touch with Pius.
Overall this holiday had been great and wonderful with lots of fun and excitement, I can't wait for the next summer holiday because throughout this holiday I spent more time with my family, discovering my new hobby which is travelling and also Making new friends like Pius and Zainab.
