The Biggest Discovery in History.
Born 1951, M, from Wilmington NC, United StatesSkorg looked over the DATA once again. For decades there had been tantalizing hints that there were some holes in the Physics of the Universe.
Almost 15% of the Universe…was missing. It simply wasn’t there. The Equations had to include a little “fudge factor” otherwise, the Universe wasn’t quite right. Some insignificant part of it wasn’t able to interact with the rest of the Normal Universe.
What could it be?
Well, Skorg was looking at the answer. Maybe. Skorg, and many others of his kind, were not into Theoretical Physics. They wanted observational Data, Experimental Data, predictions that could be tested …or seen. And how do you do that with something you can’t interact with, or even see?
It was puzzling. Until now. The Data showed him the answer. Millenia of Scientific Dogma was about to come crashing down. The only known force in the Universe…was (and still is) Gravity.
But the hints kept mounting that there might be something else out there…something strange; a new form of Matter, or some kind of shadow energy. To weak to be noticed most of the time, but here, right in front of him, was proof.
The energy and matter they have discovered was to “light” to interact with the Normal Matter in Skorg’s Universe. The only known Universe. One that this strange combination of weak matter and energy inhabit. Virtually cut off from the real world by its peculiar properties. Properties so weird they defied the Laws of Physics.
It was only after eons of research that the Data piled up enough to make it clear. Whatever these weak forms of matter and energy were, they rarely interacted with the Normal Universe at all. Preferring to pool up in little eddies in rare pockets of the Universe.
The interactions were rare, trillions of normal matter had to pass through that strange stuff to even get one tiny little puff of contact. A gentle, almost whimsical touch. Soft. So very light as to escape notice under Normal Circumstances.
Skorg had a thought. It made him chuckle. He didn’t realize it then, but he had just named the bizarre insignificant new forms of matter and energy. He chuckled again as he thought about how rare and gentle the interaction was between most of the Universe and this weird insignificant concoction with its own rules for existence.
The lightest of brushes with it, was all they had to go on. So he called it what he thought of its interactions with the real Universe were. He almost laughed as he named this strange phenomenon. So he said it out loud. It rang true. So he said it to the other Beings around him:
“Let there be Light!"

09/10/2024As usual, excellent topic choice. I know well you are keen on science and you always succeed to raise some deep questions and invite the mind to set off on your journey of reflection.

09/10/2024Thanks Aziz,
Soon the AI's will teach us all, while we just keep creating stuff...so until then, it is up to us to keep our thoughts alive.

09/07/2024Amazing, the universe is vast and there are so many wonders yet to be discovered. I love Physics, it helps us to explore beyond our imaginations.

I am in complete agreement with you. To think all that is around us came from one very basic atom...hydrogen. Just boggles the mind. And consciousness? That's the hard problem. That little bowl of tapioca like goop in our heads, makes us wonder what is the meaning of Life? And it is the same goop that we use to give our lives meaning.
Wonder, is all around us.

09/05/2024Thanks Denise,
I just got to wondering what the Dark Energy and Dark Matter Universe, which is most of the stuff in our Universe - what they would think of us, if they knew we were here. Only fifteen percent of the Universe interacts with the electromagnetic spectrum. Neutrinos are all over the place, but don't seem to interact with us. So I wondered if they are part of the bigger universe, and maybe, they have their own beings and Physicists.
