Rounho's hidden chapter
Born 2008, F, from Lahore, Pakistan~Im not alone~
The door swung open, and Nahi burst in, radiating joy. "I'm here! Someone's with me, everyone!" she exclaimed. Behind her, a shy figure hesitantly entered, holding Nahi's hand.
Nahi welcomed Sara with a warm smile. "Welcome, our new friend!" and handed her a star-shaped wristband. As they chatted, Nahi said, "Show me your wristbands." Jihoon boasted, "I'm your best friend; I can't lose it!" Rounho jokingly replied, "See mine." Mek added, "Yeah, see it." Where is Ohani? Rounho asked, but nobody knew.
The group shared laughter. The next morning, their teacher began roll call. Nahi responded with a cheerful "Present!" followed by the others, but when Rounho's name was called, silence fell. Her seat was empty.
"Where is Rounho?" Concerns filled the air.
At lunch, Nahi suggested Rounho might be on a picnic with her parents. Ohani agreed. Jihoon, Mek, and Rose playfully teased, "Mommy, Daddy, child!" Laughter erupted.
Rounho's absence continued the next day. Her friends reminisced about her quirks, mimicking her phrases. Jihoon joked, "Teacher, I didn't prepare for the exam; my parents didn't let me stay alone at home, and I had to go." Others repeated the teacher's sentence, "Rounho, it's your last chance, okay?" Ohani chuckled, "Oh, it's my turn! Hey, what did you do on holiday?"
After class, the teacher asked them to visit Rounho, lending her notes. Mek and Ohani left. Nahi, Sara, and Jihoon set out together but parted ways. Only Nahi and Sara were left on the way to Rounho's house. Jihoon received a call on the way and left, leaving Sara and Nahi.
"Is it locked?" she wondered.
Only one girl reached Rounho's house; the other must have left on the way too. The girl slipped through the window and witnessed a disturbing scene: Rounho's dad yelling, accusing her of wrongdoing.
"Why did you do that? Is it because she's your stepmother?" he asked.
Rounho pleaded, "Dad, believe me; I didn't do anything!" A slap silenced her.
The girl outside panicked, opening the zip of her pink bag. She left a note: "It's alright; don't worry. Come back to school tomorrow. I'm sorry, Rounho."
Rounho found the note and classwork notes on her doorstep. Tears fell as she rushed inside. It was the third day, and the teacher began roll call. As she called out each name, the students responded with a cheerful "Present!" Finally, the teacher looked toward the empty seat at the back and said, "Rounho."
To everyone's surprise, a voice replied, "Present!" The empty seat was now occupied, and Rounho had finally arrived.
The class erupted in cheers.
After class, everyone gathered around Rounho's chair, eager to know about her two-day absence. "How was your time with your parents? What did you do? Where were you?" they asked.
Rounho smiled, ready to share her story. "I was out of the city with my parents," she began.
"We went to my grandparents' house," Rounho continued. "We spent quality time together, and I helped Mom with cooking. We also visited nearby places and had a family picnic."
"I missed you all," Rounho replied, her eyes shining with gratitude.
The group shared laughter and stories.
A girl walked away from the crowd, clutching her pink bag, and left the classroom. Later that night, Rounho met Nahi in a park.
"Nahi, I need your help with something," Rounho said.
"Hmm, I'll help. What's bothering you?" Nahi replied.
Rounho handed Nahi a star-shaped band. "You know who this belongs to? You gave us all those."
"I know, but why do you want to know?" Nahi asked, holding the band.
"Where did you find it?" Nahi asked.
"Umm... I forgot," Rounho replied hesitantly.
Nahi's expression changed. "Ahh, whose is this? Let me find them and I'll kill them for sure!"
Rounho laughed, relieved.
The truth unfolded the band belonged to a girl whom she just meat in front of school
Rounho: (surprised) So it's really yours?
Girl: (tearfully) Sorry, Rounho. I didn't want you to know.
Rounho: What you don't want? You saw it all, you were there.
Girl: (guiltily) Yes, I didn't mean to. I'm sorry.
Rounho: So what are you going to tell everyone or laugh at me?
Girl: No, I don't. We are friends, hmm?
Rounho: Yeah...
As they returned to class, Rounho switched seat as she dont want to sat beside her. The teacher entered, and the girl pulled out a book from her pink bag.
A girl walking alone on the street thought to herself "I'm not alone. Even the girl with the perfect family has secrets."
Upon returning home, after greeting her parents sitting with her sister , she trudged up the stairs, scanning family photos on the wall. Every photo is a every happy moment of a family of three members mom, dad , and my sister . She was probably finding herself in those pictures.
In her dark room, tears fell as memories resurfaced. "Mom, why am I not in any of these pictures?" she had asked as a child.
The cruel reply echoed: "It's not your place, so how can you fit in?"
She rushed to her cabinet when her pink bag falled from her shoulder like a burden of sadness along with tears, revealing a hidden photo. "I only found myself in this picture, but the woman was someone else... Mom, why did you leave me alone?"
Tears streamed down her face as she said from that time when i was a child to till now im finding my place in those photo frames but could'nt.
