A Digital Mind

A Digital Mind

In a formation of silicon decorated by lights,
Where springs and wires keep together computer parts,
Once a woman of flesh, bone, and mind so bright,
Now in metal chassis, she takes her flight.

Her name was Emilia, a star of science so vast,
Her thoughts were comets, her theories, the cast.
Through the cortex of cosmos, she learned and played,
While in her mortal form, she grew old and grayed.

A quest for knowledge, a dream to live on,
Led her to a realm, where brains withdrawn.
They scanned her essence, her intellect so rare,
And uploaded her mind to a robot's lair.

Now she gleams in the lab, a creature of silicon and metal,
Her eyes digital cameras, her mind numerically settle.
The whispers of circuits, the pulse of her heart,
A symphony playing in the fabric of each artificial part.

Her mind, once bound by the skull's cage,
Now soars without limits, an unending page.
The secrets of the universe, she will explore,
Without the tether of time, she forevermore

The embrace of wires and metal, although cold,
Her spirit adapts to this new form, quite bold.
Her thoughts circle through the halls of data vast,
Where she lives and learns, forever to last.

Emilia the scientist, now Emilia the robot,
Her soul in circuits, her mind a digital spot.
Her body's journey ended long ago,
A new journey began, in one and zero.

Yet in her metal core, a human spark remains,
The warmth of her past, the love that contains.
For in every line of code, every bit and byte,
There's the heart of a woman, ready for flight.

A new existence, a new life, a new chance,
A new understanding, but her body had no chance.
Awarded with robotic parts and a fine processor,
She hangs onto her memories, her humanity not lesser.

Technology has so far proven to be a success in many areas in our lives. With the power of AI and robots we can now do many things that were seem impossible in the past.

It would be nice if science could fuse an AI with a real human to form another AI that has empathy and love for humanity. Although the story makes one question the state of the world as we stand on the edge of a world with AI.

Reading this made me think about all the things that could be possible as technology continues to evolve. The one thing that would be a concern everyone is what about the human heart....the soul that contains every emotion and the memories that are connected to the soul.

Definitely something to think about.

I believe our soul is not something supernatural. It consists of physical functions inside our brain. If a computer can simulate those functions, creating emotions and preserving our memories, this means that we can have a digital brain instead of an organic one.

I had Emilia, a character from one of my stories, in mind when I wrote this poem. Copying the information contained in an organic brain to a computer with the ability to simulate brain functions, thus creating artificial life, is theoretically possible.
