Safe at Last

Safe at Last(Skylar) Safe.
Everyone in this city I keep safe. But I now know it never ends that way. Skylar Field is my name but I’m known as Rain. I save people's lives or well used to. That was before this all happened.
I’m scared of myself but everyone in my city knows me as the hero who saves them and makes sure nothing happens. I have weather powers but rain is the only thing I’m not scared of.
So my last mission started with a villain. This villain had fire powers so I fought him as usual. Until my rain wasn’t working so I used to snow that was my first mistake in this horrible story. I finally won and got back to a base with my friend Lynn.
She was worried I could tell from her expression. The burns were bad. She took care of me and the whole time I was spaced out. Worried about me losing control. As soon as she was done, we both left and I went to a cave. I sat in the cave and watched the water flow. My powers were randomly activated I knew it was happening I tried going deep but lost consciousness.
When I woke up, Lynn was there worried to piece. “What happened, Sky?”
“I think I lost control,” I was looking down scared and nervous, “it's been inside happening but normally I can control it.”
“Sky, you should have talked to me,” Lynn looked nervous about what she was gonna say.
“Lynn just tell me.”
“You hurt people Sky-” she paused, “I don’t think you are a hero anymore.”
I was scared of the number, “Lynn how many?”
“About 15 people are hurt and 2 are dead.”
I was shaken up at this point. Scared for the damage report. Scared of losing my job. Scared to not be the hero. Worried about the people. I was so concerned about everything. Lynn let me have some time before she came and gave me a blanket. That’s when I realized I was cold.
“I used my snow didn’t I?”
Lynn nodded she rubbed my back trying to comfort me and the damage. “Maybe we need to try that thing.”
“No Lynn I can’t restart just to lose the bad,” I said. I was so scared.
“You're gonna lose yourself, I see you struggling, Skylar.”
“What was the procedure again?”
“You go in the machine and it will reconfigure your mind then no power usage and being watched for a week. Skylar, you got this.”
I was so stressed and scared but was it worth it? I know Lynn won’t let me get hurt or anything. But is it worth the risk?
“Skylar, I won’t let anything happen to you I never let anything, I have never wanted to hurt you. Please trust me.”
I quickly weigh the pros and cons before making my ultimate decision. “When will we do the procedure?”
“Today or tomorrow up to you just remember it could happen again.”
“Today,” my voice was shaky. Lynn put her hand on my shoulder and reassured me but I was scared.
Lynn led me to the machine. It was so scary-looking. Looked like tanning box but my legs didn’t get covered. “Sky, I promise, I won’t let it do anything to harm you.”
I nodded and went in scared but I did. I just closed my eyes and fell into this weird zone. Nothing felt real but here I was there. When I opened my eyes I saw Lynn.
“So did it work?” I say still nervous and processing.
“I believe it did but this is gonna be a rough day don’t let your powers win if they don’t win then we officially fixed it.”
I sigh nervously. “Good thing we have a couch.”
It worked I became a better hero and better yet I became I better person. The city had to hear an apology and then I worked my way up to being the hero I once was then a better hero than that. I liked Lynn but after she helped me I expressed that she liked me as well so we dated. So we are a duo, Lynn the behind the scenes girl, and me, Rainy, the hero who fights and does not lose control. It’s different but we like it.
The city is safe once again. I should never lose control again.
