Selfish Brother
Selfish Brother

What can I call you, brother?
Selfish, conceited, supercilious, I prefer
You only chased your painful dreams,
Left us behind with suffering extreme.

I still wonder what led you there.
I think you're selfish, who cares?
You hanged yourself to death,
Must have given a second thought, I bet.

You thought it would be fine
To meet the angels of heaven divine.
You left us here in the burning hell,
With painful memories, a heartache that won't quell.

No one has forgotten the blood on the floor,
We all wished you could have lived more.
Too young to depart, leaving us behind,
We mourn every day with tears, we can't unwind.

Couldn't you hold yourself together,
Or have you given me a call, my crime partner
If only you could see your little nephew grow,
He resembles you alone, the bitter-sweet glow.

It's extremely difficult to lose someone dear in this way but thank you for trying to keep his memory alive through writing.

This is sad and written out of grief, pain, and despair. With each word penned down in the short poem, one could feel the pain his demise caused the rest of the family. In truth, the brother was selfish, leaving the rest of the family in agony.
Thank you for sharing!

A sad but beautiful poem. Suicide is the hardest on the remaining Family members. You wrote of this with depth and meaning. Congratulations on Short Story Star of the Day.

It's so beautiful a poem that it had to be written 'straight from the heart' as you told Joel. My goodness, it was expressive. Thanks for sharing. And congratulations on Storystar of the Day, DivyaAttri!

It's so sad when someone decides to hang himself. The pain left behind is unbearable. I can understand the writer.
