"LOSER!"
Anastasia ran out from her office, tears streaming down her eyes as she closed the door. She wept for a moment and tried to stay strong from what just happened.
Just a few weeks ago, Anastasia's company made everyone in her office do a project and Anastasia, being the brainy ones in her group, was chosen to be the leader of the group. Anastasia had loved her friends so much, she chose to abandon her family and live with her friends. So here, being the leader, Anastasia beamed with pride as she led the group.
Her group cooperated with her throughout the project, no one worried about losing and was very sure that they'll win. As they were finishing the project, Anastasia read through the project and modified it a little bit. Somehow, her modifications had lead to her whole team losing because of the content. The whole group was very disappointed and starts bullying and blaming Anastasia for the lost of the group. From now on, angry letters were sent to Anastasia, telling her to leave or some occasional bullying message. One time, she was hanging out with her fiancée and when she took her bag out, dozens of bullying notes flew out and her fiancée managed to read one and broke up with her.
As Anastasia walked out from the doors of her office, the evening sun hung above her and shining at her like a spotlight, a spotlight to tell everyone about her defeat. She took her phone out and called her roommate to pick her up.
"Hey Rosie..."
"What is it Anna?"
"Come pick me up..." she said, tears clearly welling up, "I don't want to stay here for long"
"Why? You usually come home late in the night"
"Well, my work shift changed" Anastasia lied, "Please... Pick me up..."
"Okay! Won't be long Anna."
Anastasia waited. As she waited, she hung her head lowest as possible while hugging her stuffs close to her. As she was about to look up, people started to run out from their workspace and quickly noticed her. She heard laughter and started to hung her head the lowest. Never before, the laughter felt so cold...
"LOSER!" screamed one of her group members
"IDIOTIC LOSER WHOSE BRIAN'S THE SIZE OF A PEA!" jeered in another one
"POOPY BRAINY!" came another
"Please stop..." Anastasia cried, "I'll never do it again..."
"Hey Anna?"
Anastasia's head shot up and she saw Rosie, standing there, her face scrunched up in surprise.
"Rosie... What took you so long?"
"I don't know" Rosie shrugged, "Anyway, why do I keep hearing people calling you loser?"
Anastasia froze. If she told Rosie the fact her group lost to the project, she will be humiliated forever. Anastasia's mouth wasn't working.
"What's wrong?" Rosie asked soothingly
"Well I see you Rosie"
Anastasia turned her head and, to her horror, her group members were walking towards her, smiling mockingly.
"Anastasia modified the project a little bit and then our whole team lost! Duh! Dumbest of the lot. Never trust her, ever again."
Rosie widened her blue eyes and looked at Anastasia, waiting for an answer. But no words came out from her mouth. Anastasia started to tear up and ran away.
Anastasia ran quickly and randomly until she knew she was out of reach from those bullies. As she panted, her phone rang, only to broadcast more bullying message. Anastasia slumped down on a tree, clearly crying. Now, she was homeless, physically.
Just as she was about to lose hope, she remembered what her mother said when she was small:
"Darling, whenever you feel blue or sad. Whether you succeed or whether you fail, home is still in your heart. You can come back home whenever you want. You're welcome. Family loves you more than anything dearest"
Anastasia took her phone out and, with hesitation, clicked on her mother's phone number.
The phone rang before her mother picked it up.
"Hello? Who's speaking?"
"Mother... It's me... Anastasia" she cried, shameful tears rolling down her cheeks
"Oh... Anastasia my dear... I haven't seen you since"
"Yeah mother" Anastasia replied sadly, "Please can you-" she hesitated, "Pick me up?"
