Born on this day.
Born 1975, M, from Manchester, United Kingdom
He would have been a hundred years old today,
my grandfather, the one they named me after,
the man who I played with as a child,
playing rough the way that only grandads do,
who made me that wooden cricket set,
who would fill our glasses with
ice-cream and lemonade,
and white paper-bags crammed with sweets.
They say he filled the door-frame with his stature,
And that’s where I get my height from.
I will raise a glass for him tonight.
