There will never be another you.

There will never be another you.

There is many a song that has lyrics that say: “There will never be another you.” Usually it is meant in a romantic relationship manner- and for some... that is true. Allthough if you live long enough- and grow up a bit, you will love again. Sure you won’t forget your first love, but it won’t be your only love- given time.

What I want to point out is this simple observation: there will never be another you. That isn’t a romantic semantic catch all. It is literally true. There …will…never…be…another…you.

Wrap your head around that- if you can. You are unique. And the only one of you that will ever exist. So sit back and listen as we find out why that isn’t just a lovely sentiment, but a fact of Science.

In the old days I gave a lecture about how incredibly rare it is to just be born. The odds of two people meeting, out of eight billion or so folks on the planet…is already a pretty large number. But then you have to have sex. Statistically more than just once too. I know a lot of you went to your Prom and defied the odds…and caught the first time out. But many more…did not.

Then Hundreds of millions of sperm have to race to fertilize just one egg. And that one egg is just one of (depending on the woman’s age) somewhere between three hundred thousand and half a million eggs. And it has to drop at the exact right time to be in a place where it can both be fertilized and attach itself to the best place to grow. So timing is important too.

Even with all of the best conditions available, sometimes people who want children can’t conceive them. But that is a different conversation. This one is about you. You are here. So all of the incredible odds against you even being here…you beat them all. But that’s just the mechanics of it. Two people met, exchanged some genes…and here you are.

Ahh, but now the odds grow stupendously that you would be born you. Because genes are remarkably complicated collections of DNA.

Probability and Statistics are wonderful tools for studying the possible outcomes of combinations of things. Some truly curious Brainiacs decided to apply these two branches of Mathematics to figure out what the possibility that you would be…well you.

So they figured out all the possible combinations that could come about - excluding all the statistical “failures”. They weeded out the combinations that would have formed not fully human - or malformed, deformed, or destined not to even be born- people. And that left them with the number of possible different combinations of people who could be born.

So far, we have about 8 Billion folks on Earth. Roughly (rounding the number off) about 100 billion “human beings” have already been born. Who knows how many will be born in the Future? But that number doesn’t really matter. Because the number of possible “you’s” that could be, is such a large number that the percentage that will be born, compared to the number that could be made…is staggeringly insignificant.

For all practical purposes, you are the only you, that will EVER be born. Sure there are identical Twins…but guess what, they are not identical. They don’t even have the same finger prints. Sure we have folks that resemble us physically, or have roughly the same mental abilities…but that doesn’t make them you. Their particular set of genes is unique. So are yours.

You owe it to yourself to be the best version of you …that you can be. Life is rare. Intelligent life even rarer. And nobody is more rare than you. Yes, you.

You want a miracle?

Look in the mirror.
