On A Clear Night Like This
Born 1975, M, from Manchester, United KingdomThe moon is glorious and white
in the sky
the stars shine and sparkle
above the mini-supermarket
and the kebab shop
the milky white moon-glow
reflecting on the shutters
of the betting shop
on the corner.

11/28/2024I thought it was wonderful too, just like the folks on the Thread. Poetry is beyond my skills. For as you demonstrated in your poem, each word had to be the "right word", and must carry the weight of its position in the poem. Much to exacting for me. But love to read it!

11/28/2024Thanks so much for your comments, as always, Kevin. I've been writing stories since I was a kid, but recently started dabbling in poetry. Take care, Chris.

11/27/2024Wonderful poem, well done because sometimes it is not easy to come up with words to clearly explain something.

11/28/2024Thanks a lot, Joel. I find that a lot of poetry is written about the countryside, but for me there is also a beauty in the cities we live in.

11/26/2024Another five star offering! After finishing the poem I realized that it reminded me of the imagist poet, William Carlos William's, famous poem about the Red Wheelbarrow. You poem is incredibly original and thought provoking. It also reminds me of the Russian writer, Chekhov, who, even though he never wrote poetry, used a minimalist approach to convey powerful emotions and imagery. It is ultimately the readeer's responsibility to grast the writer's intent. You project a strong poetic 'voice' that comes through in your writing.

11/27/2024Thanks so much for your comments. I have always been more of a story writer rather than a poet, so your kind words are really appreciated. And I love William Carlos Williams, so really appreciate the comparison. Thanks again, Chris.
