The Cursed Mirror part 2
Teen, F, from HCMC, Viet NamMeridian got dragged into the cursed mirror and when her head finally got in, she knew she was rapidly falling down a void in the cursed mirror. She screamed as she fell, hoping for any spirits, let alone anyone in the house. As she was about to scream once more, she landed with a thud on the solid ground below, "THUD!"
Meridian got up and looked around where she just fell. It was a dark and empty place with no one lurking around. She tried to find if there were any shadows of unfortunate people who fell in here too but she couldn't find one. Meridian started to find this place very, very weird. In this cursed room, there seemed to be no walls at all because when she tried to walk over to a wall, the wall seemed to be an infinite miles away despite how much she ran. The room was empty and eerie except for a mirror standing next to her. Meridian spent the whole day trying to find a way out, but there was no way out. There was just a lone mirror, standing there. Desperate, Meridian walked over to the mirror, hoping it was yet, another portal to lead her back home or at least, out of this nightmarish doom. But when she tried to stick a leg in, the mirror was glass solid. Meridian knew she would be trapped in here forever, hungry and desperate to get out of the cursed mirror.
Just when she was about to lose hope, a distorted figure suddenly appeared in the mirror. Meridian bolted straight up and looked at the mirror, hoping a spirit would come out to free her but the figure just stayed in the mirror while the figure made her shape clearer and clearer by each second.
Soon, Meridian knew the figure that was printed on the mirror was a woman of 29 with thick, blonde hair. Meridian stood up and tried to have a better look at this strange lady. Meridian gasped when she knew who was it in the mirror.
It was her Mother.
"MOTHER!" Meridian cried, trying to run forward, but the mirror dodged Meridian neatly as she ran. Meridian turned towards the mirror, "MOTHER! IT'S ME! YOUR DAUGHTER! DON'T YOU REMEMBER ME MUM?"
Still, Mother stared forward, her eyes looked blank and soulless, and her face straight. Meridian was now frantically screaming at her mother.
"MOTHER! IT'S ME! YOUR DAUGHTER MERIDIAN! WHERE AM I? AND WHY AREN'T YOU ANSWERING ME?"
"Calm down dear"
Meridian stared in shock when she saw her Mother looking down soullessly at her. She looked solemn and looked as if she had been sleeping for a few centuries behind the mirror.
"MOTHER!" Meridian cried, trying to force herself right in front of Mother, "Don't you remember me?"
"Shut up," Mother said, "I don't remember you. Are you what I call daughter?"
Meridian didn't answer. She felt that it wasn't just her expression that was soulless but also her voice. It was cold and flat with no warmth in it. Mother stared with cold eyes at Meridian who was speechless.
"Y-y-y-yeah" Meridian stuttered
"Welcome, daughter of mine," Mother said flatly
"But Mother, where am I?" Meridian asked, trembling
"In the cursed mirror," Mother said, "I've been observing you for the past few hours and your eyes were glued to the mirror. I got very annoyed and wanted you to get the furthest away from the mirror because it is cursed. Joseph was right. He had warned you that my stuffs could be cursed but you didn't listen. I tried to get you out of the mirror by making creepy versions of your reflection, but it didn't do the trick. I was enraged and dragged you down here to have a talk and rot"
Meridian trembled when she heard the word "rot".
"But Mum..." Meridian tried to approach friendly, "Why did you want me to get my eyes out from the mirror?"
"Because I don't want you to face the same fate as me," Mother said with a cold voice, "I died because of the mirror. The previous master, like me, was in the mirror. I got obsessed with it so much, that the ghost of the previous master decided it was enough and attacked me while I was using the mirror. I got a bleeding eye and she brainwashed everything, even my memory. But I still remember my children and forgot about my husband, my work... So, I died. The ghost of the previous master was freed and floated to heaven while my spirit was dragged in here and stuck in this mirror. When you die, your spirit comes into the mirror and mine shall be freed. And so on, but for now, I await your soul to be trapped while mine shall be freed"
"Mother, I'd rather die instantly than suffer," Meridian said coldly at her
"Ok, you wanna die now dear?"
"Yeah! To be engraved in this miserable mirror forever for your own and my own sake" Meridian said gloomily
"Ok, now just stay RIGHT there..."
"DON'T DO IT MERIDIAN! STAY AWAY FROM THAT WOMAN!"
The mirror broke suddenly and the image of Meridian's mother shattered into pieces. There, a woman of 29 with thick, bushy blonde hair was poking out from what was left of the mirror. She must have come from a portal or something because there was black space behind her. Unlike the mother Meridian saw in the mirror, this Mother had a warmer voice and she indeed looked more natural. She looked at Meridian with kind eyes glimmering in the dark.
"MERIDIAN!" Mother cried, "Don't you know that she's trying to stay immortal to make other's lives a misery?!"
"Mother?!" Meridian cried, "I thought you were there in the mirror!"
"NO!" Mother shouted, "That was the devil of the mirror! That's why this @$#!& mirror is cursed, child!"
"But-"
"NO BUTS!" Mother cried, "GET OUT OF HERE BEFORE SHE GETS HER DIRTY HANDS ON YOU!"
Mother pointed suddenly at what should be the ceiling. Suddenly, a flight of crystal stairs began to form, making its way from top to bottom.
"QUICK! GET OUT OF THIS MIRROR!" Mother shouted when Meridian was still standing there and staring in awe
"Ok... What about you-"
"I HAVE TO STAY DOWN HERE," Mother said quickly, "GO!"
Just as Meridian was climbing up, black and thick smoke suddenly puffed out from the portal. It surrounded Mother and she screamed in suffering.
"ARGH!"
Meridian, being a nice girl, leaped down from the crystal staircase to try and help Mother.
"MOTHER! I'M COMING!"
"STAY AWAY AND FOCUS ON GOING BACK UP! ONCE YOU GET UP, DESTROY THE MIRROR! PLEASE! I KNOW I WILL BE TRAPPED IN THIS FOREVER, BUT I DON'T WANT ANYONE ELSE IN THE FAMILY TO SUFFER! SO JUST DESTROY! AND YOU HAVE A LIMITED TIME TO CLIMB THE STAIRS!"
Meridian nodded and the puff of black smoke suddenly stopped attacking Mother and started to target her! Meridian screamed as the smoke blocked her sight. But still, Meridian persistently just kept on climbing until the smoke formed the face of the ghost girl she met earlier.
"Stay where you are child" she hissed, "You said to die instantly! Now, I shall take yours!"
The ghost girl opened her mouth. Meridian screamed and looked back. Surely enough, the stairs were disappearing and from the smoke, she could make out a swift figure, rushing towards her.
It was Mother.
"Mother!" Meridian cried
"Get off my daughter- NOW!!!" Mother screamed as she kicked the goon away.
The smoke dispersed. Mother looked at her.
"She's sure to come back! Now, let's make a quick escape!"
Mother lifted her suddenly before throwing her up to a glass surface!
Meridian flew out from the glass, black and blue with bruises, but she couldn't help but look back at the mirror. She saw her mother, screaming and waving goodbye. The black thick smoke kept on attacking.
"DESTROY THE MIRROR! PLEASE!" were her last words before the smoke engulfed her.
"MOTHER!" Meridian cried. Just as she was about to jump in, the view in the mirror switched back to her stupid reflection. Meridian stared at it, tears in her eyes when she tried to remember her Mother's final moments.
Meridian tried to put a finger in it, but the mirror was no longer a portal. Meridian started to cry, watching her stupid tears rolling down her cheeks and dripping on the mirror. Just as her mother told her, Meridian took the mirror outside and smashed it with all her might, crying as much as she could.
Meridian spent the rest of her days crying, grief engulfing her to the max.
