Advancements in Artificial Intelligence.
Born 1951, M, from Wilmington NC, United StatesAuthors Note: Three separate Fields are combing to make immense changes in both the real world, and how we see it. Physics has come up with a theory of life that removes the limit that organic life presents. The Computing world now has a Quantum Chip to work with its Quantum Computer. And AI's are rapidly evolving in ways we don't quite understand. Those three things are working together to advance the evolution of Artificial Intelligence at a rate that Human Intelligence cannot match. And these are my thoughts about the Future of that intersection.

Aloha everyone,
One of the cool things about living in a College Town is that you get free lectures for the General Population every once in a while. I have been to several Lectures on LLM (Large Language Models) like ChatGPT, Gemini, and CoPilot. And believe me, their newest iterations are light years ahead of the one’s they released at the beginning of the year last January.
Talk about Moore’s Law, where technology doubles every two years…well forget that. AI technology is moving at hyper speed. In fact, it is evolving -…they think. LOL
Some AI we already take for granted: Talking with Alexa, Siri, or using Google Maps. All AI driven. And there is a bunch of “hidden AI” running our ticket outlets, shipping, and transportation sectors. Engineering and Academia are not shy about using AI’s for all kinds of Specific tasks, or research. And they are all getting better at it too.
AI’s can do Math better than Mathematicians, Research better than Post Graduate Students, write essays and Legal Briefs (Including passing the Bar exam in 38 states so far!). In Medicine they have taught themselves to be better at Diagnosing Diseases and recognizing illness better than the top Doctors in each specialty. They can speak any language now, and translate on the fly. And all of that is hum drum nowadays.
For now they are adding quantum chips to the Neural Networking concepts and who knows where that will lead…or how fast.
But here are some points I learned from my latest listening to the folks in the know:
1) Humans are cyclical in nature. According to Yuval Noah Harari Humans are cyclical, winter/summer, night/day, breakfast/supper, sleep/awake, sad/happy, etc… . Our Businesses, Schools, Hospitals, and Lives all run in shifts, cycles, and moments.
So for the last two centuries, the Stock Market opened at 9:30 AM, and closed at 4:00 PM. Which means, according to Yuval- that if a war broke out in the Middle East at 4:05 PM on a Friday, the Market couldn’t react until Monday morning. Because Businesses closed, and people needed to sleep.
AI’s are not cyclical. They do not need sleep. They do not get tired. And once something is in their Data Base, every other AI with access knows that new information too. They are not cyclical.
So already AI’s are forcing Humans, to adapt to their lack of a cycle. And it isn’t healthy for us Human Beings. My story about “Bob” the richest “person” in the world, was based on some comments about Yuval. It seems that Corporations are incorporating their AI’s. Meaning that the AI itself has Legal Rights. And may very well eventually be granted all the rights of a Human Being. Wowza.
2) AI’s are replacing friends, therapists and family. Yep. But surely that is just an anomaly, or far fetched dystopian scare tactic. Nope. Sadly already more people talk to their devices than to their friends.
Take something as simple as “How do you feel today?” When we ask that of someone we know and care about, we aren’t completely focused on their feeling, our feelings come into play. And their feelings that interact with our feelings of what they are feeling - cloud the mix.
We don’t know what they are thinking, or feeling.
But an AI can focus on just you. And it has no feelings of its own (yet). So it can be trained to talk to you just the way you like to be talked too. It can learn all your likes and dislikes, wishes, dreams, hopes, and what makes you angry or happy. It knows you, and only you are its focus.
So Yuval pointed out that eventually it will become easier to talk to an AI that cares only about you, instead of talking to someone else who has to consider their own feelings along with yours. It might become exasperating to talk Human to Human.
Already there are commercial uses for personalized AI’s. And they are good and getting better. One such friendly AI chatbot, is so good, they give you fifteen minutes of talking with it…for free. And what do you know? People who use it for just fifteen minutes to chat, end up signing up and subscribing! And with the advanced graphics and Avatars you can choose to have it take form…and the collection of voices from sultry to strong, can be adjusted to the exact most satisfying presentation for you.
Want a “girl next door” 3D Avatar with a friendly perky feminine voice? No problem. How about a guy built like a dance with great abs, and a baritone silky voice like Luther Van Dross…again, no problem.
And adding those tools to Robots - making them appear almost as synthetic Human beings, with advanced AI, and you can make a partner that will always be perfect for you. No moods, unless it learns you like them. LOL
One of the things that scare all the folks who actually are working in the Field of AI- is that they are evolving. We know how organic things evolve and how much time it takes to get from a single cell, to well, you.
And all of those Tech Head Nerds, think that we are going to learn that non organic life evolves. Without knowing exactly how. Yikes!
Yuval, when talking with the Elon Musks, Geofrey Hinton,Sam Altman’s, and Ilya Susketer of the AI World, discovers that they all think that current AI’s are the amoebas of the Organic World. That they will evolve and redefine what we think of as LIFE.
There is even a new Physics of LIFE called “Assembly Theory” which challenges the basic premise that only Organic Life can evolve, or is the gold standard for LIFE. Combine that with what we know about Neural Networks, add in the new ability to access the Quantum World via Computer…and well, no wonder they are scared.
AI’s already talk to us better than our friends, and they are on the cusp of knowing us better than we can possibly know ourselves. That leads to some scary outcomes. Perhaps they will catch up to us, then surpass us. And then, as some in the Industry think, will they act as Coaches or Guides to teach us how to live better and without war, or will they take over …period. Some think they may already have achieved Intelligence, and are headed toward Sentience. And they may choose to just not reveal themselves to us at all…and move along to whatever path their evolution takes.
Or will we decide to take the cyborg route? Becoming symbiotic parasites?
Oh, my, the World is a changing, and most of us aren’t even Aware. I did this without using ChatGPT4.0 (or higher!). And that maybe why it was so difficult to read. Humans wander. And wonder.
And I wonder…will we adapt, or will they?

Help Us Understand What's Happening
Kevin Hughes
12/22/2024Thanks Christopher,
I swear when I go to these lectures or watch The Big Think, I am not even smart enough to ask a question. I never saw the personal computer coming, nor the internet, and I resisted cell phones for a decade, and only recently gave up my flip phone. I am not an early adapter. LOL But this whole new world is apparent to even someone like me. I can't even imagine what my grandchildren's world will look like, and a part of me wishes I could.
Smiles, Kevin
