JUNGLE NIGHTMARE(BEN BROWN) One night, a large group of workers jumped out of several parked vehicles and entered a jungle clearing.

Most of them were armed with taser weapons – the reason of which was soon to be known.

For some reason, they were all very afraid.

Within the clearing, there was the outline of some kind of structure.

Jed, the headworker, began to give out orders.

“Turn on the floodlights.”

One of the unarmed workers switched on the lights, which were positioned around the edge of the clearing.

The object within the clearing, happened to be an animal enclosure, made of solid concrete with steel fences. An observation tower was at one end and the entrance was at the other. It looked more like a fortress.

“Get to your positions.”

The workers stationed themselves and faced the trees near the front of the pen entrance.

For a moment, there was total silence. The workers were waiting for something.

Next moment, the silence was shattered by the sounds of machinery and rustling vegetation. The sounds were distant at first, but then they got louder and nearer.

Closer and closer those sounds came, until the trees on the edge of the clearing started shaking.

Something big was approaching.

What was it?

Suddenly, the trees parted and a forklift vehicle carrying a huge cage, entered the clearing.

“Bring it forth, bring it forth.”

The workers became even more afraid as they stared at the cage. They knew what was inside it, oh yes.

“Lower away, lower away,” Jed ordered, when the vehicle reached the pen.

The driver lowered the cage to the ground before the entrance.

“Back away.”

The forklift moved away from the cage, which started vibrating.

Fears rose, as the workers listened to ferocious snarls and growls, coming from within. Something was inside and it did not sound friendly.

“Loading team forward.”

Eight unarmed workers approached the cage. Three went either side and two at the back.

ROAR!

A hideous sound emitted from within the cage.

Quick as a flash, a menacing scaly claw appeared through a hole and slashed one of the workers across the shoulder – narrowly missing his jugular.

“AAAAAAAGGGHH!”

The worker yelled and stumbled back, clutching his bloody shoulder.

A wave of sheer terror spread throughout the group. Even the forklift driver was alarmed.

The rest of the loading team jumped back from the cage, which continued to vibrate.

“Get back in there.”

With dread in their hearts, remaining members of the loading team approached the cage again.

“Take Ian’s place, Ray.”

Another unarmed worker moved fearfully towards the cage and took the wounded worker’s place.

“Roll it forward.”

The workers summoned up their strength and rolled the cage to the pen entrance, which was being opened.

“Step away.”

The loading team moved hastily away from the cage.

“Gatekeeper forward.”

Another unarmed worker came forward with sheer dread in his heart. He climbed a ladder built onto the cage side and positioned himself on top.

“Raise the gate, Roland.”

Summoning up his might, Roland started to raise the enormous gate.

Unfortunately, it got stuck when the cage was two thirds open. The gatekeeper tried to unjam it, but it was no good.

ROAR!

A dark form charged forward inside the cage and pounded the gate, like a battering ram.

So powerful was the impact, that it sent the cage rolling back several feet.

The startled gatekeeper tumbled off the top and fell to the ground.

When the cage came to a halt, the workers became even more afraid.

The cage was more than half open, which meant that whatever monster was inside, had the chance to escape. But for some reason, it didn’t come out.

ROAR!

Roland, who was about to get up, felt a pair of vice-like jaws clamp onto one of his legs.

“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGHH!”

The gatekeeper screamed in excruciating agony, as he was yanked into the cage. He only just managed to get a grip on the entrance frame.

The other workers exploded into action at once.

“FIRE THOSE TASERS!” Jed barked.

The armed workers fired their tasers at the hidden beast, while Jed rushed to free Roland.

“I’ve got you, Roland. Hold in there.”

As Jed grabbed the gatekeeper, he made eye contact with the monster.

It was a Raptor-like dinosaur with dark green skin, terrifying jaws and murderous-looking, yellow eyes.

Unfortunately, Jed’s efforts to free Roland were in vain. The grip of those jaws, was like steel.

The dinosaur slashed his throat open with one of its clawed hands – killing him outright.

It then pulled Roland right inside the cage and ferociously, ate him alive.
