The Mind of a Puppet
Born 2009, F, from Delhi, IndiaThe Mind of a Puppet
I am your puppet.
I dance at your tunes,
And move at your wrists.
I twist as you sway,
And sway as you say.
You can make me sit, you can make me stand,
Your wish is my command.
A mask rests on my face.
You see it happy, you see it sad.
You see what you wish to see,
But never the face underneath.
I am what you need me to be,
A speaker and a listener.
I am yours to hug when you need comfort,
And hurl against the wall in anger.
And you may laugh and you may cry,
But I will never come to you.
If I stir without your word,
You will know I am not a puppet,
But a fellow human being.
And I fear that when you know,
You will leave me on the garbage pile,
Discarded and disused
Till another man along the way,
Becomes my puppeteer.

12/23/2024I particularly like the way you told a story in a poetic format. The imagery is very bold and holds the reader's interest. I wish you had some way to weave a happier or more uplifting ending to the dark theme but it's your story/poem to tell as you see fit. Sometimes when I write about a theme which is unpleasant, I find a way to turn things upsidedown so there is a positive twist to an otherwise disagreeable resolution, but everyone must pursue their own creative vision.
