THE OLD TREE IS DYING

THE OLD TREE IS DYING
(English translation from Spanish: Dill McLain)

The soil is no longer good. The old tree is dying. Its roots are broken and
diseased.
It resisted as long as possible, but now its hopes are exhausted. The area
has become wild, and the tree is too old to be transplanted.
Fortunately, its seeds migrated while it was still flowering and bearing
fruit. They made it in time and travelled across the seas, carried by birds that
once populated its branches.
Thus, its children germinated in distant lands. They now live there robust
and healthy.
Sometimes, when the north wind blew, the old tree pricked up its ears.
The wind’s voices brought it the rustling of the leaves. The tree was happy,
knowing that it was the children who were sending their kisses.
Now, the old tree is dying. Its traditional soil no longer nourishes.

Aloha Mano Olivera,

It is extremely difficult to write poetry...which is probably why I don't. LOL. But to have a poem be beautiful in two different languages...that is extrordinary work. Loved it, the message, and the ...well, poetry!
Congrats on the StorySTar of the Day award. You earned it!

Smiles, Kevin

What a beautiful poem. Trees have life cycles. If only Humans could see the beauty they bring. Congratulations on Short Story Star of the Day.

Great poem. I love every part of it. It shows how temporal life is and that nothing lasts forever. Sooner, the old gives way to the new to grow and flourish. Thank you for sharing!

What a cute poem about a dying old tree! Hopefully, one day, when we have children, they'll always learn how to love and send love to us, even though they're far away and our health is declined!
