Vain Girl
Teen, F, from HCMC, Viet Nam"Honey! Can you please cook lunch for the house? I'm feeling so tired today! It must have been some serious flu! My temperature is so high, I think it's going to beat the World Record!"
It was a cold Saturday day, and as usual, Honey was staring and admiring herself at every angle, feeling proud of her physical appearance. Honey, being so proud of her appearance, was believed to be the vainest girl in the little town of Windsbloom, a town that is said to have lots of pretty girls and women, all very vain but none of them as vain as Honey.
"Honey? Would you cook lunch?-"
"Yes, Mum! I heard that! Don't you think I'm born to be deaf? Pah! Sharpen your old mind, ickle Mummy!" Honey groaned as she slid out from her bed, "But..." she said as she tried to steal a glance at her reflection in the mirror again, "I think my hair is seriously out of place, Mum. Just need to groom it and perhaps, detangle it..."
"Oh is that another one of your excuses of why you shouldn't go down to make lunch?" Mother groaned angrily, "Or do you want us to starve? I know I should be doing it, but now I'm sick! What if I accidentally cough into one of the dishes? You eat it and you'll be dead sick!"
"Fine Mum!" Honey snapped as she trudged out from her pink room. She wasn't used to being bossed around like that or being given a lecture like that. As she walked miserably into the kitchen, she spotted her siblings, Petunia and Hans sitting on the couch, doing a Mona Lisa jigsaw quietly, occasionally muttering to each other. A thought struck Honey as she watched them do their jigsaw. She could let them make lunch while she minds her uncompleted business!
"Oh hello, siblings," Honey said suddenly, looking at Petunia and Hans. They looked up and beamed at her brightly.
"Oh hi, Honey!" Petunia smiled, "Do you want to play jigsaw with us? We got a lot to finish!"
"Listen the two of you" Honey snarled unpleasantly, "Mum's ill today and is off sick up at her room"
"Poor Mum" Hans remarked, "I don't mind bringing a chocolate chip cookie up for her?-"
"Silence you!" Honey snapped, "Anyways, Mum had assigned me to do the lunch. But I need to detangle my hair to welcome Mum to the dining room, so I think YOU TWO should make lunch for the family"
Silence filled the air for a moment. Petunia and Hans looked at each other, unsure of what to do.
"I think I can do it" Petunia squeaked, "We can't sit here and starve!"
"Oh, goodie!" Honey said smirking. Her plan had worked! She got these two twerps working instead of her while she admire herself! Now, she can go to her room and keep on admiring her perfect look while these twerps work!
"Yeah, we'll do it," Hans said sarcastically, "Any awards?"
"Well, it's best not to give awards!" Honey snapped frightfully
"Well, it's meant to be your job, but you told us to do it and we must get an award for that!" Hans said hotly, "Else, it's you who should be doing the work!"
"Fine!" snapped Honey in anger, "You'll get a dollar each after cooking! DEAL?"
"A dollar is a bit too little" muttered Hans
"Then get nothing" Honey screamed
"Alright! DEAL!" Hans said in sarcasm as Petunia rolled her eyes. Honey grinned wickedly before skipping back up to her room.

Up in the clouds, a group of gods and goddesses were sitting there enjoying their days up in a peaceful place. Well, everyone except one goddess. Nemenis was sitting up in the clouds, staring angrily at Honey's house.
"Well, that girl is so vain, I can't believe she shouldn't be punished by her Mother!" Nemenis cried angrily as she watched her poor siblings cook the family's lunch, tired and sweaty, "And what those two poor children get is just a dollar! One dollar! Big deal!"
"Nemenis? What's wrong" the goddess Athena asked soothingly
"That girl is so vain she forced her siblings to do what she's supposed to do! And didn't even get punished!"
"Nemenis! It isn't too severe to punish!"
"Too severe!" Nemenis said hotly, "I will give her a piece of my mind!"
"Well, she's just a child!" Athena cried, "She doesn't know anything big yet! Just give her time and she'll know her problem-"
"You're mad Athena," Nemenis said angrily, "I shall let her know what happens to vain people when they cross the limit too much!". With that, Nemenis stormed back to her place and began to plan out her revenge on that little menace. She decided to lead her into the arms of death to let her see the real darkness of vainness.

"Honey... I'm still very sick! Can you please unglue your eyes from your mirror just for 30 minutes to take Cherry out for a walk?"
"Mum! Going outside could help a little with your illness! You better go!" Honey snapped
"But I'm ill!" Mother cried, "Besides, Petunia and Hans are out for a play date with their friends! So, please... I beg you! I'll give you $20 for taking Cherry out for a walk! Enough to buy a better and more updated version of the Glitter Stage Makeup kit! Please!"
Honey thought for a while. Twenty dollars. It's not bad. Besides, she'll look even prettier if she can use a Glitter Stage Makeup kit to make up her face.
"Ok, Mum. $20 for walking Cherry outside for 30 minutes. Deal" Honey said as she walked out from her room. She slipped on her pillow slippers and put her bucket hat on her head. She took Cherry the dog out of her bed and leashed her and they were off.
What Mother didn't know, though, was that Honey took her mirror along to watch her beauty as she walked Cherry. And soon, she took it out and stared at her beautiful reflection in vain, admiring herself as her dog walked.
As she wandered around and kept on staring at herself, she walked off aimlessly and settled on a river not far from home, and just as she stared deeply into her eyes, a robber suddenly snatched her precious mirror out of her hands. Honey stomped and screamed, "Give me that back!", but the robber just ran and ran, eventually disappearing out of sight. She looked at the river and thought of an idea. She could look at herself in the water! That way, it doesn't matter if anyone steals her mirror! But what she didn't know is that a goddess had purposely led her here to see the pain of vain.
As she looked into the reflection on the water, the beautiful reflection showed up, looking just like her. Honey smiled at her reflection and barely paid attention to Cherry who was howling and squeaking for her to stop and keep on walking. But Honey, being an ignorant and vain girl, chose to ignore the cry and kept on admiring herself. Now, her hands are grazing the water, reaching out for her reflection, and her reflection reaching out for her. She looked nearly like Narcissus, the vain youth who was constantly bending towards the water, watching and admiring his reflection, and finally turned into a bunch of white flowers, bending towards the water. But Honey wasn't going to face the same fate as Narcissus. It's going to be different.
As she admired herself, she knew she hadn't got all of her "beauty angles" covered yet. So, she leaned even more, admiring even deeper than ever. Her poor dog tried tugging on her skirt to get her attention, but she ignored it, minding her business. Cherry began to bark and squeal to get passer-by's attention but didn't get any.
Now, things were getting insane. Half of Honey's body was now peering above the water and her reflection was now half of her body. But Honey didn't seem to care and kept on staring. At this point, Cherry was now trying to pull her skirt to get her off potential danger, but still, Honey ignored her. Now, the wind was blowing fiercely, and leaves and specks of pollen were now flying around but Honey didn't seem to care. When she looked up suddenly, a grain of pollen suddenly entered her eye and she clapped her hand over to her eye and toppled forward to the water!
"ARGH!" Honey screamed as she flew into the water with a splash. Honey's head bobbed up from the river's water and now was looking desperately at Cherry.
"HELP! YOU STUPID, STUPID DOG!" Honey scolded and Cherry began to bark loudly for attention but didn't get any. The poor dog bit her shirt's collar and began trying to tug her into land but she was too heavy. Honey was now panicking. Her arms waved around in the water, but it only made her further from land. Now, she was flapping her arms above the water, crying for help, but Cherry was helpless and had no choice but to jump in.
She jumped in and started to swim over to Honey. But then a passing motorboat came by and splashed a lot of water over Honey's head. She choked and gagged before disappearing into the deep river water. Cherry now was howling in pain while he trod water. A passer-by came by and saw the poor dog. She took a net and scooped the pooch out and suddenly saw a pair of pillow slippers and a bucket hat, floating on top of the water.
[...]
The police arrived at the scene and saw Honey's possessions floating on top of the water. Mother was also there, crying while hollering out Honey's name, and was hoping it was another of Honey's jokes, but it wasn't. Petunia and Hans were also there crying, "HONEY! HONEY! WHERE ARE YOU?". Cherry snuggled in Petunia with pain, knowing that Honey was forever gone in the water. A few hours later, when the tears glistening in Mother, Petunia, and Hans's eyes hadn't gone, the police had managed to scoop the body of Honey out. She was there, on the net, lifeless and her hair soaking wet along with her clothes. She was sent to the hospital right on time but the doctors couldn't revive her and she was left, dead as Mother, Petunia, and Hans sobbed away.
And that is why, you should never be too vain as it'll lead to bad ends. Be proud of yourself but not too proud of your physical appearance.
