The Horizon of Us
It was early morning, the world still cloaked in darkness, when she stepped outside. She walked into a field awash with grass and wildflowers, their delicate forms swaying gently in the breeze. She wore a flowing white dress that grazed her ankles and simple white flats. Her ear-length dark brown hair caught the wind as the stars and the moon painted a soft glow across the sky.

She wandered until she reached the edge of a grassy hill, where she paused and lowered herself to the ground, tucking her legs beneath her. With her head bowed, she closed her eyes and began to pray.

As the words of her prayer flowed silently, her thoughts turned to him—the man she loved. Though they had never met, her heart held an image of him as vivid as a memory. Tears slid down her cheeks as she whispered her hopes into the stillness, praying that her words would find him.

They were bound by more than earthly ties—spiritually united by God. Their connection defied distance, a quiet communion where messages were sent soul to soul, where their prayers intertwined as one. She felt his emotions as clearly as her own, and she knew he felt hers. Opening her tear-filled eyes, she gazed up at the heavens, their vastness reflecting the ache of longing within her.

As the first rays of dawn crept over the horizon, she noticed a figure in the distance. Her heart leapt as the figure grew closer, resolving into a man. It was him—the one she had prayed for, the one she had waited for. She rose slowly, her breath catching, and carefully made her way down the hill.

At the base of the hill, she paused, her heart racing. "Is that you?" she asked, her voice not spoken but sent telepathically.

“Yes, it’s me,” he answered, his voice warm and steady in her mind.

She inhaled deeply, her thoughts tumbling like waves—the countless days and nights spent yearning for this moment, the prayers that sustained her, the faith that carried her. Step by step, they moved closer, the golden light of sunrise illuminating their path.

“Please, God,” she prayed silently, “let this last until You call us home.”

“It will, baby,” he replied, his telepathic words wrapping around her like a promise.

Finally, they stood face to face. She took him in—his hazel eyes, shimmering with depth and warmth, his warm beige complexion, his dark blonde and the beard that framed his tender smile. He wore a crisp white shirt, pants, and shoes that reflected the purity of this moment.

He reached for her, his arms encircling her waist, and she wrapped her arms around his neck. Their eyes met, and she saw what she had dreamed of for so long—his angelic gaze, full of light, radiating the love that called forth her own.

“Are you ready to go?” he asked, his voice both grounding and celestial.

Tears welled up as she smiled. “Yes, I’m ready,” she said, her voice soft but resolute.

He lifted her hand to his lips and kissed it gently. “Let’s go, baby,” he said.

They kissed, a meeting of souls more profound than words could express. Together, they turned toward the rising sun. With each step, their wings unfurled—glorious extensions of their bond. Hand in hand, they leapt into the air, their wings carrying them skyward.

Their destination was not a place, but a purpose: to share God’s message of love, hope, and unity. Together, they would be a beacon of light for a world longing for renewal, their love a testament to the divine.

I love the way you use words and language to paint a vivid picture. At the same time the narrative is profound because this is bigger than a romance between two people. It's deeper than just the characters mutual gratification or joy. It's purposeful and quite spiritual. It's very well done.

Beautifully written, but a bit over the top into romantic la la land for me. But I'm sure all romantics will enjoy it. Happy short story star of the day, Kanesha.
